When to switch from infant carrier to car seat?
I can't seem to remember what the criteria is for switching from the infant carrier to a regular in-car carseat, i it when your child raches 26 in? Thanks. My son's feet are beginning to hand over the infant carrier, and he is a BIG boy, really heavy to carry, I'm just trying to figure out when it;s time to put away the infant carrier.

It varies a little by manufacturer, but I had the Graco and it was 20 pounds or 26 inches, whichever comes first.

It is suppose to be 26in for the Graco Snugrides. My son hit that at 3 months but I didn't switch him over until he started to hang over which was late 4th month/early 5th month.

If his feet are hanging over it is time to move up to the next one

We switched Joey at 4 months (he's a very tall baby). Im not sure what the requirments are becuase we bought the Britax which is actually good from 5 up to 65 pounds. He loves it and it's soo comfy.
It looks like this

hmmm...i thought the graco was 29 inches. Let me go check. Yep - mine says for 22 lbs or less and 29 inches or less. But Sidney is 25 inches and her feet are very close to hanging over the edge.

Re: When to switch from infant carrier to car seat?
thanks so much ladies, I;m hoping to keep him int he carrier until it gets a little warmer, it is so easier putting the bundle me over him and getting out of the house, I'd hate to have to dress him and then put him in the car, I think he;s about 26 in and I have the graco, so I'll wait another month or 2. Dree, lets make a date!! Sorry i didn't respond to your FM, it keeps slipping my mind, I hope Sidney is feeling better!!

Re: When to switch from infant carrier to car seat?
Most pediatricians will tell you to keep your baby in there until they are 20 pounds. Do not go by the length. You want to try and keep them in the infant car seat as long as possible. It's the safest seat to have them in.

Same here. Mine says 29 inches. We just switched over to the convertible this week because he reached both limits. I kept him in the infant seat as long as possible because I heard the same thing - it's the safest.

Re: When to switch from infant carrier to car seat?
Jacob is 16lbs, 8oz and is 27 inches long. My doctor said as long as they are not 20 pounds and he is not uncomfortable, then you can still use the infant carseat. We ahve the graco.
I think with in the nex couple of weeks I will switch him over to the Britax but I am trying to keep him in it as long as I can. He is 5 months right now...
