How would I know if I have glass in my leg?? Please help ASAP!
Hi,
I was at my sisters today and her glass patio table shattered. Someone left the umbrella open and the wind just whipped it away.
Anyway, as I was helping her clean up the glass, I accidentally knelt on a piece of glass. I screamed. It ripped my pants and gave me a nice open gash. So we cleaned it up and put a bandaid on it..
Now, tonight, I am thinking about it and I don't remember finding the glass. When I press down on the cut (it has since closed up), it really hurts.
I am afriad that the glass is still in my leg? Would it be infected? Would my body push it out. Should I go to the ER?? I am so scared...
Any Doctors around???

I'm not a doctor but I think you should flush it out with running water and see if it feels better. Sounds painful!

I don't think I'd go to the ER. I would wash it & touch it. IF it feels like something is in there, it probably is. Your body should work it out on it's own unless it's deep.
One thing you need to watch out for (which is unlikely) is blood poisoning. There will be a thin red line traveling away from the cut. My nephew had that when he had a splinter that he didn't tell anyone about.
eta. Not a doctor either (but you know that)...

It will become inflamed and painful if a foreign body is in your leg. Your body will not just close itself up and not have a reaction if somthing is not suppose to be there and it's big enough), you just have to watch for infection, Give it a day or 2.

If there is glass in the wound, it will flare up and become red, and painful. You would know...

I got really scared with what-ifs. :) It looks like a perfectly normal cut.. Healing nicely already. I was just thinking, I don't remember seeing the piece of glass anywhere.. Then I am like, oh no...
I guess I am watching too much of "House"! :))))
