know anything about North Carolina real estate?
I know that NC is really an up-and-coming place right now, and we're thinking about buying a house there and rent it out. I would be open to moving there, but DH is not on board. For those of you more familiar with the area, do you think this would be a good investment? Where are the newer areas (but still close to a city) to buy? Do you think we would have problems finding renters? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Re: know anything about North Carolina real estate?
Hi, I live in Charlotte which is one of the biggest cities in NC. The real estate is unbelievably (sp) low. My FIL's just bought a cute ranch for 120k. The area is definitely booming, I think that would be a great investment and you should have no problems finding renters. Good luck

Re: know anything about North Carolina real estate?
I moved to NC (Charlotte) about a year ago and bought a house, since then my husband has purchased two more rental properties for less than half of what a house on LI would have cost us. The houses have both been rented out, but I do think it may be difficult to do long distance without a management company. My husband has had quite a few small issues where he has run over to the house. Overall, it's been a good investment, and this is definitely a boomtown.

My parents are researching the same thing right now - they ended up going with SOUTH Carolina instead. They're looking to buy and rent out a condo in the Myrtle Beach area.
In July, Dad's cousin bought a 3-br condo with 2 full baths, and a big floorplan for $106K - 2 miles from the beach. They're very happy with it.

Re: know anything about North Carolina real estate?
What do you think of this area: North of Charlotte, NC in historic Statesville. . . only 15 minutes to Lake Norman and an easy drive to Charlotte, Hickory, Winston-Salem, High Point, Greensboro, and Mooresville via I-77 and I-40. There seem to be some really good deals.
Model Information: First Floor Plan $117,990 - $125,990 Sq Ft.: 1,214 3 Bedrooms 2 Bathrooms Living Room Dining Room 1 Car Garage Option Cathedral Ceiling Master Bed Downstairs
ETs- I can't get the photo to post, but it's a cute new build in a community.

Re: know anything about North Carolina real estate?
sounds like a nice lay out. check on the areas. you don't want to be to far in land. 10-25 min drive is perfect.
What about Raleigh? Chapel Hill?

Re: know anything about North Carolina real estate?
We just moved to Raleigh (actually I am not there yet, DH is, but I will be at the end of the month). I can tell you that it is so affordable there but houses are going up as we speak.
I will be able to tell you more once I am there and dealing with it. We are going to be house hunting in a few months so I will learn all about it.

Re: know anything about North Carolina real estate?
My ILs live there and it is booming. They moved to a new construction community that is growing really fast about 3 years ago. The houses were going for around $120 - $140k back then.
They are in Kernersville, right in between Winston-Salem and Greensboro which are 2 fairly big cities. Plus, Dell is moving their headquarters there so I would say that's one area you should look into for investing. With Dell coming, I could see renting becoming a good option.
The builder of their community is Pierce Homes of North Carolina. The website shows some of the communities they've built in, etc.

Personally, if I were trying to get something for a rental, I would go closer to Charlotte than Statesville, mostly because there are many many many more jobs in Charlotte and that is where I would think you would rather find a renter from. A statesville to Charlotte commute might deter people, especially on i-77 which is notoriously slow in the mornings before Exit 18 where the highway becomes 4 lanes.
