An unusual card to carry around

This weekend I was in Philadelphia, so I went to Mass there. Outside the church there were 2 little ladies handing out cards.

They say that if you are murdered you do not want your killer to be executed.

I have never seen this before, my sister said it is common around nuns.

Would this hold up at all? If you were a juror would you take this into consideration?

Re: An unusual card to carry around

Wow... I actually had to stop myself for a second with this one. My first instinct was - hell no - fry the b@stard! Then I remembered I'm against the death penalty! Chat Icon I guess that was my initial reaction because this almost seems as if the reasoning was sympathetic to the killer.

I guess for me the card would be better put if it said something like "I am AGAINST the death penalty" rather than "please don't kill my killer".

If I was a juror, yes, I would take it into consideration, but again, I am against the death penalty (because I feel they should rot in jail) so I would likely not be sending the killer to the chair anyway.

I don't think I can dictate what happens after I am gone from the grave. I doubt I would carry one of these, even though I am against the death penalty. I am fine with letting the authorities and the jury sort it out.

I am against the death penalty. I told Leo I guess I could carry a card, and he was very against it. He said it is not up to the dead, but to the living they leave behind.Chat Icon

No it wouldn't hold up. The family members do not have a choice as to whether the death penalty is sought after
the DA and prosecuters do

I think that is the dumb waste of time Chat Icon

Re: An unusual card to carry around

My husband is also for the death penalty. He thinks it is wrong for me to try and have a say, he thinks that the grieving families left behind should have the right to watch the killer die.

And let's not forget the millions of tax dollars that are spent to keep these criminals locked up that can be used for something better. JMO

Actually, in many things I have read about this, the cost of executing prisoners exceeds the cost of incarcerating them for life.

Once they finish with all the burecreacy and administration of it?
Probably Yes. I think this is where the costs will be incurred.

Yep, it is the cost to taxpayers during the time an inmate is on death row.
