NYC Teachers
Our maternity Leave stinks I have to use all of my sick days so I could get my regular pay for the time that I am out. I am only taking 6 weeks. When we decide to have baby #2, I am not going to have as many days saved up.
If I were to take the actual maternity leave, then it comes out to about $108 a week. Who can live on that??
Anyone else going through this??

Re: NYC Teachers
I'm not a NYC teacher, I'm in NJ, but I have the same thing. We don't get any paid maternity at all. I am only getting paid for whatever sick days I have accrued (not many). I was only in my district for 2 years before getting pg so I think I already used up all of my days and I haven't even had the baby yet! NJ teachers are also not eligile for disability pay, are you? Basically it's an unpaid leave for me.

Re: NYC Teachers
I am not a teacher, but I do not get paid maternity leave nor am I eligible for NYS disability insurance because I am a 1099/independent contractor. I called this morning and found out. Be thankful that you can at least get disability. Every little bit helps.

Re: NYC Teachers
I'm a NYC teacher. It's disgusting what their policy is. We are caring for and educating children, but it's like we're punished for deciding to have our own. It's very frustrating. I don't really have that many days banked either, because I'll have worked 2 years when the baby is born.

Re: NYC Teachers
I'm a NYC teacher too, luckily my baby is due in early June so I'm going to use my sick days from when the baby is born until the end of the year. If I have another baby, I may try to plan it the same way.

Wow, I thought it was decent until you mentioned what happens for Baby#2! Yikes.
You can borrow 20 sick days against your future sick bank though.
If any of you ladies have 7 years when you get pregnant, it might be worth it to look into a half year sabbatical. You get 70% of your pay, I believe. Granted, there is work involved but you might be able to swing it.
