I have found that we like Lowes better. They have a better selection of "decorator" things...where is HD is good for screws and nails and such! Chat Icon

I agree with the above poster.

I too have had a better experience with Lowes. As far in selection, I feel that they have a better selection (from what we were looking for) and on alot of stuff that we purchased for our home, it had to be special ordered from HD which meant a longer wait time and more money, whereas Lowes had it in stock and for less money..

But as far as quality, I would say that they are both the same.

I prefer Lowes. However, for carpeting my small bedroom I found Home Depot to be much less expensive for the instalation.

Thanks...I've talked to a few people who seem to prefer Lowe's to HD so I was curious. Chat Icon

I heard HD is geared more towards contractors where as Lowes is geared towards homeowners.

Interesting...I've talked to a few GCs (and of course places like Blackman's and tile stores, etc) who don't particularly care for HD "quality".

I agree. Home Depot is just much closer to us, but prefer Lowes

I prefer Lowes because its cleaner, neater and a bit more designier (is that even a word?) in options.

Re: Lowe's vs Home Depot

With Lowes I found that they had a better selection and their sales people are more knowledgeable. The woman who helped us choose our bathroom stuff had been in the business for 25 years.

My parents love lowes..so much so that they drive out to the one in farmingville/medford and we live in West Islip. They cannot wait for the new one to open in Bay Shore.

Re: Lowe's vs Home Depot

My father was an electrical contractor most of his life and the rational he gave me for preferring Lowe's over HD was that Lowe's (at least when dealing with electrical componants) carried brands that he recognized whereas HD never had anything he knew as quality - always seemed to be a mystery brand. Additionally he said he's always had trouble getting replacement parts for HD items like low voltage lighting whereas he hasn't had problems like that with Lowe's.

Like many of the others said...I too prefer Lowe's over Home Depot. They just seem to have a much better selection of items and DH likes the quality and brands that Lowe's carries.

Another vote for Lowes. I really don't like Home Depot at all.
