When a recipe calls for you to "brown" something - how do you do it?

Usually in butter, well depends what you are browning.

I think that it means baking it or frying it depending on what you are making

Usually you brown in a frying pan with butter or oil. It depends on what it is your cooking.

If you are browning ground beef for example, you just heat it up in the pan until it is....brown.
