please settle a debate...
When did you stop using your monitor at night?
I ask because I have had trouble sleeping lately and my DH thinks if I shut the monitor (video and audio) that I will sleep better. I currently leave the audio off since I can hear her from my room - but I like having the video on.

Video has been off since 5 months. I can easily turn it on if I need. Been sleeping great :)

Re: please settle a debate...
Claire is 14 months and I still always put the audio monitor on for naps and nighttime. I sleep better knowing I will hear her quickly if she needs me.

Re: please settle a debate...
I only used an audible monitor, we did not have video. We stopped around 8 months or so, and I quickly found out I can hear him without the monitor because the room is right next to ours!

Re: please settle a debate...
Stopped using the audio at 6 months - and kept the video monitor on until they were about 18 months. Mainly because if I heard them, I could see if they were just talking in their sleep or really awake. If they weren't awake & I went in to check, there was a chance, they'd wake up.

Re: please settle a debate...
I am still using the audio monitor at 6 months. We don't have a video one. I really don't know when I would stop using it...
Jacob's room is right next to our room though

Re: please settle a debate...
Jake is 7 mos and I'm still using the audio monitor (we don't have video). It hasn't even crossed my mind that I could stop using it now.
His room is across the hall from ours and I could definitely hear him if he were to wail but I like hearing him stirring and babbling in his sleep at night just to know that he's okay in there so I keep it on.

Re: please settle a debate...
Although Hayley's room is cloe to ours, I have her door shut because we have a humidifier running in her room at night. Even when I don't have the humidifier on I will probably use it because I can be a heavy sleeper and I would be afraid I won't hear her.

Re: please settle a debate...
Aidan is 20 months and I use the audio because I acutally cannot hear him sometimes. I am a heavy sleeper and he plays TOO quietly in his room now without calling me. I keep it low enough to not disturb my sleep though.
Never had a video, checking in on him before I go to bed is enough for me IMO.
I think you may sleep better if you lower it to not hear all the little noises and sleep talking, but will hear her if she cries.

Re: please settle a debate...
God help me I can't put DD in her own room let alone turn off a monitor.... Honestly if she was in her own room I have no idea when I would be able to sleep without a monitor. Her room is not that close to ours.

I use it every night and Molly is over 2. I couldn't sleep if I didn't have it on.

Re: please settle a debate...
Our room is very close to the kids so I think I used the monitor until my dd was a couple months old and then my son I didn't use it at night right away. There was no sense in keeping it on and it did keep me up at night. Any extra noise keeps me awake.

Re: please settle a debate...
My room is right next to the kids room, so I will probably be doing the same that I did when Alex was little... Using the monitor while I was in the front room, or showering, etc.
At night I wake up when my son cries, or needs me, sometimes even if he coughs different.. Its wild how your ears tune out everything else once you are a parent!! I have slept very well since deciding not to use it unless I was out of "ear shot". Good Luck!
