Planning a first B-day party...
OK, thanks to DH procrastinating and being SUCH a hardass on this, I am still completely clueless on what to do for Bella's b-day.
What should I do? We live in Long Beach on the West End, so no yard for a party. My Dad would definitely host it--(still have to ask), but he lives in Connecticut...what should I do???
We are at this stage... --Have it at a restaurant with only immediate family and godparents (29 adults, 6 kids)
--Have it at my Dad's, invite whoever we want and know that a lot of people we don't think will come anyway because it's a trek--plus have to worry about weather...
A restauarant will be easier and controlled for me, but I could do so much more at my Dad's.
My DH is so against going all out so either way I still have to restrain myself...
Also, this will have to happen on 9/10, the Sunday after Labor Day...Bella's b-day is on the 8th...
Help...anyone got some ideas?

Re: Planning a first B-day party...
kelly- Have it at a restaurant in LB. How about Sutton Place? We had Sofia's baptism there and it was pretty reasonable price wise and the food was good.
I say CT is too far especially if all the people you know are from around your way but that just my opinion.
OR you could have it in a park. I don't remember the name of the park out in Lido but my friend went to one and it was cool. The only drawback is you'd have to get the food out there.

Re: Planning a first B-day party...
Could you do a beach party & rent out one of those mushroom things?
I would probably do it local in a restaurant if I had no other options. I wouldn't want everyone to have to drive to CT. I would think it would be a PITA to have to lug everything I've prepared or deal with a caterer long distance.
eta. BTW, that is a perfect party date. Right when the summer slew of events have ended. Everyone who didn't see each other for Labor Day gets to catch up at the party.

I would opt for the rest close by too. It might be too much of a hassle lugging stuff and baby back and forth.

I think a beach party is a great idea.
I also agree that if the beach idea didn;t work out - I would do a kid friendly restaurant.
I worked as a party host when I was a teenager (doing chararcter's and stuff for kids b-day's) - We would go to restaurants all the time. Dressed up in costumes, face paint, prizes - it was cute.

how kid-friendly do I have to be with many more adults than kids?

Just a place that you would feel comfortable having DD's party - A lot of parties we did were at family owned Italian places.

Mushroom park is a great idea! We just had my family reunion there on Sun and we had it catered it was great. People had the option of the beach or the pool! The only negative is I know we book it a year in advance so I'm not sure if it's too late
Also, what about the Knights of Columbus on Beach and Minnesota? You could have it there and have it catered. Sutton PLace actually does nice catering.

Re: Planning a first B-day party...
so I am thinking a restaurant definitely, either Fisherman's Catch or Pompei...I just don't know where else to even look...
any ideas?
the beach would be amazing, but the stress of it possibly raining would drive me off the deep end...

Even if you had an huge overhang?
What are the ages of the kids that are going? I don't think it has to be too kid friendly if they're very young.

Sorry to hear that because it is usually a very good restaurant and we have had several parties there....was your end of the year party buffet??
Kel- Dad's would be ideal but it is a little far.
this year you could get away with a restaurant. you dont have too many kids and we can by them coloring books etc. like you did for the christening.....

The mushrooms in Mushroom Park are huge so if it rains you can have everyone inside. I think that's a great idea. If its nice there is the beach for people and other things to do.

I agree I think having it on the beach / near a pool is more fun for adults and kids then a restaurant.. I would love to spend my weekend after labor day at the beach Plus it will be probably be cheaper and more casual!
Good luck with whatever you decide to do!
