Resume Question

I just came back from my interview with the head hunter, and they wanted me to redo some of my resume. Instead of having an objective on top of the resume, they want me to put a profile.

I need some ideas on how to write a profile for myself. The woman I spoke to said to put down that I was the backbone of my department, or something like that.

So far I came up with the following, but it needs help.

Profile:
Reliable, Hard working Team Player

Excellent Organizational Skills

Data Entry experience

Excellent problem solving Skills

Computer Skills include: Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Windows, and Outlook.

Help me word it better or add stuff to this...
Thanks,
Scott

Re: Resume Question

Not for nothing... but I completely removed the "objective" part from the resume. Its such a stupid thing anyways.

And I also removed the references upon request part. Thats obvious to most as well and doesn't need need to take up space.

I replaced them with making my job descriptions larger... which talk about anything I would say in a "profile".

Re: Resume Question

Ijust updated resume...this is my profile. It is pretty specific to what i do however so I am not sure if it helps.

Senior level media executive with extensive experience managing large, multi-product brands across a variety of media, traditional and non-traditional. Comprehensive knowledge of direct media. Works equally well in both structured and unstructured environments. Ability to train and motivate staff while anticipating and meeting client needs. Accustomed to fast paced, high-pressure situations.

Re: Resume Question

Your profile doesn't say anything that would be specific to you--almost every applicant could say any of that. I would add what you do, or have done...

You need something like this "Senior level media executive with extensive experience managing large, multi-product brands across a variety of media, traditional and non-traditional. Comprehensive knowledge of direct media. ", but for you.

Re: Resume Question

Scott -

Not for nothing but be careful what headhunters say for you to change your resume. I did this awhile ago and I learned that this headhunter was just trying to get me to skew my resume (i.e. lie) so that they could sell me to their client. Realize they work for the companys not you so they don't always have your best interest at heart.

I have extensive experience in resumes and would be willing to take a look at yours if you want me to. Usually the only reason to use an objective is if you are looking for a job outside of where your experience is (i.e. you are in data entry but want to get into HR). So i would be very cautious with what you do.

Good luck.

I was going to say something like this too, Scott. DH just went through the job hunt recently and the recuiters were ridiculous! They were all about what commission they were going to get, not what was a good fit for him. One guy pretty much told him to make up stuff to add to his resume - he said to "embellish it a little..." Another guy sent him on an interview for what DH thought was a management position and it wasn't until the interview was almost over that the employer told him he was there for another position and apologized when he realized DH was not told this in advance (DH wouldn't have gone on that interview if he had known).

I would say be willing to finesse it a little, but don't try too hard to please the recruiter, especially if you aren't comfortable with what they want you to do.
