Jack came home in a onesie with the bottom snaps. My hospital didn't have mittins but I did and they never stayed on so I just filed his nails down.

Re: Baby's going home outfit....do I need....
my hospital (NS Manhasset) didn't have the mittens, they had these side tie t-shirts with the fold over sleeves that are like mittens. but i was told we were not allowed to bring her home in that, we had to leave it at the hospital.
my doctor said to use a side snap shirt until the cord falls off, the ones that snap in the crotch can rub the stump and irritate it and the baby.

Re: Baby's going home outfit....do I need....
I never used the mittens - never even bought them - so I have no clue about that. My hospital dressed them in a cute undershirt so I used that but I had brought a side snap onsies just in case. The first week I felt more at ease using side snaps than over the head ones.

Pretty much the same here...
hospital provided side snap tees (even some to take home) I had also gotten one package and that was plenty. It wasn't long before he was in onsies.
I don't really understand the mittens? I just cut his nails and kept them short.

Re: Baby's going home outfit....do I need....
I bought a bunch of the side snap shirts. It is like a half t shirt. I hear that they are great. When I bought the baby's layette, they included them in there and said that the babies would need them.
