You know what the scary part is? Imagine trying to get that baton out while a 200 lb man is forcing you to the ground. Its NOT physically POSSIBLE.

I was play-wrestling with Rich yesterday, and its actually SCARY how all he has to do is put his hand on my arm and hold it to the floor, and I can't move it at ALLLLLL. Its a horrible feeling of weakness - I just kept thinking, "What if this wasn't YOU and we weren't playing around?! It is so scary how I can barely defend myself!" I got really upset. I saw them too Red -

stupid things like going for the pressure point inside the thigh (BUT you have to be strong enough to apply enough pressure for this to actually hurt), or "look him directly in the eyes" (like THATS not gonna piss him off...)

All I know is, if I'm ever in the situation, I'm just gonna say a prayer and SCREAM - nothing else I do is gonna save me.

My old roomate was really into this and even started teaching a class. Self defense classes should nto be taught with weapons, although some of the classes teach you how to defend yourself AGAINST weapons.

Re: any one have self defense training..

Is pepper spray illegal? I didn't think it was, for some reason. My co-worker (older woman, 50s) carries it too. I know Mace is illegal, I thought pepper was OK. Chat Icon

Actually, they say pepper spray carried by the victim is more often used AGAINST the victim than the attacker. YOu have to be careful and know how to use it quickly and under stress.

Re: any one have self defense training..

I took martial arts for awhile and made it halfway through the belt ranks. And while I was at my strongest then, I still felt like it was very easy for a man to overpower me. When I would spar with the men, there was always a noticeable difference between the hits I could dole out and the hits I took. Plus I always felt like they were taking it easy on me because I'm a woman. So how are you really supposed to learn to defend yourself against a real man if they don't attack you like a real man would?

Still, I have to say that I did learn techniques that don't require alot of strength but do some decent damage. They might help in an actual situation but may only serve to p!ss off the attacker more. I always wonder.

Re: any one have self defense training..

I took martial arts a few days a week for about 3 years. I loved it! But like babyavocado said, there was no "real" hits because someone could seriously get hurt and the karate school could've gotten sued. I was put in real situations though (like being pinned to the ground) and had to practice getting out over and over. But I doubt I would ever do anything like a spinning back kick or a hip throw on a guy in real life! With a guy I'd act defenseless, then hit him where it counts as hard as I could and as fast as I could and then run like heLL!!!!

My DH takes Krav Maga. It is an Isreali self defense form. He loves it and always nags me to take it.
