Sleep Positioner?

Did anyone register for this? Have you heard good or bad things about it?

It's on the BRU things to register for list, however, I don't know if it is useful or not.

Re: Sleep Positioner?

I registered for it - cause my cousins said they use it - although I did not receive it at my shower - I plan on purchasing it before the baby comes

My cousin told me to register for it too. She said it's very useful for infants.

I do not have one. To be honest, I'm not sure what they're used for; babies can't roll over for several months.

Re: Sleep Positioner?

I have the incline to sleep ( I think thats what it is called). I actually have used it with my son from the beginning (he's almost 11 weeks). My ped also recommended having him sleep on his back and to have it elevated a little ( even more than the positioner) to avoid congestion (from putting him down after he eats)

Re: Sleep Positioner?

We used one with EMily once she started sleeping in her crib (refused to sleep anywhere but her bouncer until about 2.5 months then we transitoned her to the crib) and she really wouldn't fall esleep without it until about 4 months. Then at 4 months I stopped using it and she sleeps fine without it.

In my opinion, you should only use one if there is a medical reason to - like reflux, colds, or some other reason the doctor recommends one. Or if that is truly the only way to get the baby to sleep after trying without (unusual). They pose a slight risk and are not recommended for general use by the SIDs Alliance.

ooh. I thought the purpose of them was to prevent SIDS. My little sister died from SIDS, so I know I am going to be crazy when it comes time for the baby.

I'm so sorry to hear about your little sister. That is so awful.

Here is a link to the SIDS Alliance website to see their current recommendations.

I think the (very small) risk with sleep positioners is that a baby's face could be pressed against the wedge, posing a suffocation hazard. There is a whole lot of confusion between suffocation risks and SIDS risk. I don't think sleep positioners increase the chance of SIDS, I think they increase the chance of a freak suffocation accident.

I heard the same thing too.

Sorry about what happened to your little sister. It's such a scary thing to have to worry about SIDS and I know I am going to be a nervous wreck with my baby. I'm going to want to keep him with me for the first 6 months.
