I used to frequent Newport Center with my family. I *believe* it is in Jersey City.

Jersey Gardens isn't far from the Goethals Bridge (Staten Island), Short Hills isn't too far and Menlo Park is about 20 minutes from SI and Woodbridge Mall is close to SI as well.

if you need to make a quick trip, definitely the Newport Mall - it is in Jersey City. All you have to do is take the PATH (33rd & Broadway) to the Newport Stop and the mall is across the street. It takes about 15 min to get there from the city. It's a nice mall...I used to live 3 blocks away!

Bridgewater Commons...I'd say it's about an hour from NYC.

Short Hills is the best.
I hate Jersey Gardens- it's ghetto IMO.
Newport was my "home" mall when I lived in JC but it doesn't have the variety of stores either.
Short Hills has a combo of the high end and the regular every day.

Riverside is nice - has bloomingdales and Saks 5th Ave.

If you go a little further on Route 4 you can go to Garden State Plaza mall. (another 5 miles maybe at most) - right where Route 4 meets Route 17.

Actually all of Route 4 has shopping centers with tons of shopping - furniture and decorating stores like Pier One, so that's always an option too.
