training

My mom got a wheaton terrier in December, and shes been trying to train him since....

The dog refuses to go to the bathroom outside... She takes him out like every hour, and regardless of how much time they spend out there.... he wont poo until they get in the houseChat Icon

Shes getting soooooooooo fustrated, and dosent know what to do! She's trained each dog we ever had...so its not like she dosent know what shes doing....

Any tips? Suggestions???

Re: training

I'd try going to a training at Petco/Petsmart....I think the housetraining ones are only $15.

A friend of ours has a Wheaton but I don't know how easy it was for them to train him.

Has your mom tried taking him out, if he doesn't do his business, put him in his crate for 10 minutes, then back outside for some time, and keep doing this till he actually goes outside then PRAISE him.

My SIL rescued a stubborn bassett hound and this is how they trained her.

We went through Bark Busters, a national chain, and tho they were expensive, they will work with you for the life of your dog after the initial fee. I highly recommend them!

Re: training

Does she use treats to train her?, I found that was the only way the housebreaking clicked with my puppy.

Also in the beginning, when she would be going in the right spot, I would always say go potty, so she learned the command. Now, when I want her to go and I say go potty, she will go to the pad and go, if she has too.
