Advice for the BIG sono...???

On Wed is my BIG sono, and Im so anxious to find out the sex, and see my angel for the first time in soooooo long....

Of course Im a little worried that my baby will be shy, and not reveal themself....Ive heard so many things like:

Drink alot of water b4 you go, drink alot of OJ, drink alot of soda/caffenie...

Any of you do any of the above....find that one made your baby more active than others... ???TIA

Re: Advice for the BIG sono...???

I think they give step by step instructions. My office made me empty my bladder 2 hrs before the sono, and then drink 24 oz of water within 1 hr of my appt, then I had to hold my urine until I got to the office. I could not imagine having to drink another sip at that point, I was in so much pain, I almost ped my pants. 3 glasses of ater 1 hr befire the procedure should be plenty to get he/she awake, just make sure it;s COLD!! Good luck!!!Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Advice for the BIG sono...???

I didn't have to have a full bladder for my big sono. I had about 1/2 cup of regular coke before I went and the little bean was jumping!!!

Shana - you can have caffeine but only 1/2 cup once a day. At least that is what my doctor said.......

I tried to drink a ton of water but just couldn't hold it. I peed about 5 times before we got in for our ultrasound. They said it didn't matter. I did have some coke and I think that gave her the hiccups so that wasn't a good thing.
My doc's office told me that there was no need to do anything special beforehand.

Re: Advice for the BIG sono...???

My office tells you 16oz of water before but I only drink 8 and it's always enough. Sometimes they tell me to "let a little out" - like that's EASY????Chat Icon But the OJ and carbs'll work to make your baby active so they get the best shotsChat Icon

Bring fruit with you and eat it in the waiting room or while they are doing the sono. My baby always gets moving when I eat fruit.

Re: Advice for the BIG sono...???

Stick with fruit juice or fruit.... Although caffiene is allowed, it might make the baby too active and therefore the technician may not be able to get good pictures.

Re: Advice for the BIG sono...???

Wow!! this is my 3rd pregnancy and I had to follow strict instructions for the sono for each pergnancy. We give the same instructions to our patients at our hospital when they are coming in for a abdominal sono. It is to make surewhen the bladder is full, there are no complications or issues. I have never heard NOT doing it any other way, that's scary, why doesn't every office have the same protocol?
