Need opinions...job related

I work p/t...5 mins from home, 26 hrs/week, tues-fri. Make $14/hr and get paid sick/vacation/401k. The job is "OK"...I don't love it, but don't hate it either.

I was offered another job, 20 mins from home, 20 hrs/week, $15/hr, pd sick/vacation/401k and I can pick my hours (so instead of working 4 days/week I can work 3 or maybe even 2) and get free cable/phone/internet. But I'd also have to get some work clothes/pay for dry cleaning (shich I dont have to do now) and spend more on gas...

What would you do?

If I think I would like the new job better, I would take it. Free cable/internet phone puts you over on the salary - a really nice benefit btw! If you only have to go in 3 or maybe 2 days, you are not talking about needing a lot of business out fits.

Re: Need opinions...job related

i'm sorry, i'd probably keep the current job.
I like consistency, and change scares me.
The current job is secure...can't say that about the new one.

Re: Need opinions...job related

I would take the second job. Sounds like it would be more flexible for you and your children. Like you said, you could work 2 days instead of 3 and that would take a day of traveling (gas) out of the picture. Good luck.

I say go for the new job Stacy. It sounds like it will free up some time for you, and you know what, it's nice to have to dress up for work. It makes you feel goodChat Icon And honestly, the difference in the amount of gas you'd be using really isn't so bad. But the free cable, etc is totally worth it. Miss that from when JT worked at News 12!

I say go for the second its more money you get free cable and work less. Yeah you may have to travel a bit and you won't need many work outfits if its only 2 or 3 days a week. Black slacks go a long way just put it with different tops thats all

i think *I* would stay at the current job

1. it's close to home (very important in case of emergencies)

2. it's more $$$

26hrs/$14 = $364
vs
20hrs/$15 = $300

the free phone/cable/internet thing - is that a guarantee? or did they just SAY that's what you'd get??
even if they did give it to you free...per month it's really not saving you $$ - with the cut in hours, it would just be making you break even just about.

The free phone/cable /internet is a definite, so that would save us about $160/month.

I think just the ability to work less days a week would outweight the money for me, personally.

I would definitely go for the second job!!! The phone/internet/cable is a great perk!! That more than pays for gas, IMO!

I have a full time job and I only work 4 days a week(Tues-Fri) which I love. I think having the time off makes such a difference. And they are giving you perks so that's an added bonus. I'd take the second job and since you don't have to work so many days, you don't really need to buy a major wardrobe for it. Mixing a few pieces and you get so many different outfits. One thing that I'd consider is the ambiance where you will be working....do you think you will like it? Will they be flexible enough if you need to leave earlier? etc....
If they are flexible enough and you think you can adjust to the new environment you will be working in, I say go for it.
Best of luck!!
