New blood test results today...
And my FSH has gone from 12.7 in November...to...14.7 !!!! What on earth am I doing wrong??? I go for acupuncture...and I am losing weight....and eating healthy, mostly natural and organic foods.... everything I am told to eat..... I am seriously at my wit's end. I had decided to wait one more cycle but now with this news....not sure if I should
I am waiting for a call from my RE to see what he says. The other day he thought waiting another month and trying naturally was a fine idea... now.... who the heck knows.... I am so upset....

Re: New blood test results today...
wow, Im sorry Kara. I think I would re-think the waiting it out for IVF as well. Even though I thought thats what you should do.
Im very concerned about my FSH level and have done a ton of research. Acupuncture does lower your FSH, but my RE said that theres no such thing. You always have to go by the higher number, because you cant get any more eggs, and I trust her, she's gone to prestigious med schools, and I honestly dont think I would wait now in yoru shoes.
I wish I knew the answers, since you and I got different advice. My Re said that she would not do IVF on a 40 year old with my numbers, which are a lot lower then yours.
I think that you should point blank ask your RE...what are the actual success rates in numbers he feels for you naturally, Insemination wise and IVF wise.
If he can honestly tell you he sees IVF as a much higher success then I would go for it.
I tend to bring up your situation to my New RE when I see her again next month to discuss the discrepencies.
GOOD LUCK!
Wish I have more advise to offer

Kara - I'm sorry you're feeling this way!!
can I just share my thoughts with FSH and IVF? 1. the RE may not even let you proceed, I always had to be below 12 before starting a cycle. 2. Give the acupuncture, diet changes, etc at least 3 months to see changes. a higher FSH level may just be your body adjusting 3. check out these other boards, I find them very helpful IVF connections and high FSH support, sorry I can't post the links I'm having computer issues
Good luck with your decision. I'm here if you need anything

Re: New blood test results today...
Thanks Donna, I will look into them....
My RE called...and you're right, his says my #s aren't good for IVF this cycle.... FSH 14.7, E2 is 88.2. He thinks we should wait to see what my #s are next cycle, and he says I am doing everything I can do. Sooo.... I will continue with the acupuncture and massage, and healthy eating habits...but I may have a shot (tequila or similar, haha) when I am near O time this cycle just to relax, lol.

Re: New blood test results today...
I don't even know what FSH means sometimes. On my first cycle I was eating well and losing weight before it and it was 19.8! My next cycle I was eating terribly and it was 7. Now I have been eating well for only a short time and it was 9.9. I don't know...maybe it does take a while for the eating right to take effect and that was why it went down to 7 a couple of months after that? I have heard that what you do up to 3 months b/f you get pg is what is important. So maybe it will take another month to go down?

Re: New blood test results today...
kara,
so sorry to hear all this. you know, as upsetting as it is, try to re-focus on something else--and maybe it will surprise you and turn around. like when women want to to get pg and then give up and they end up pg...

Re: New blood test results today...
Sorry about the FSh/ i too have been trying to lower my FSH. Doing acupuncture, eating better and trying to relax more. I think it does take a few months for it to lower when you start doing acupuncture, eating well, etc....
Good luck with your next cycle. take care.

I completely agree. FSH levels are relative. Remember FSH is a hormone. Just like all hormones, they fluctuate based on what's going on in your body. Doctors test fsh to see, if you have a chance of good 'stimulation". If your fsh levels are elevated the chances of you responding to IVF meds....are lower. Doctors who don't do IVF on women with elevated FSH levels, worry about their success rates. There are doctors out there, that don't care, that you only have 3 eggs or 1 egg to work with. They will do IVF and many times it leads to a healthy pregnancy.
Please don't let yourself, believe that your success for a pregnancy lies in FSH levels. In fact many people conceive naturally with high fsh levels because it doesn't matter how they respond to meds...since they aren't on any.
Another thing NShoreMommy said, that is really very critical is the "3 month time frame". It takes follies approximately 3 months to mature. Therefore, the acupuncture you just started, will help you for your future cycles. The results are not usually immediate. The change in diet, is also something that takes time for the body to adjust to.
IMO, I believe when you have elevated FSH...you need to see doctors that specialize in this area. They have very different protocols. Would you consider having a consult with Dr. Davis at Cornell ?
I spoke to Dr. Wu, my acupuncturist this evening. He said, sometimes acupuncture does elevate the fsh levels before it lowers it but he said that doing that is not necessary. Once again, acupuncturists also have protocols...and you need to make sure they are doing what you need. Herbs are a big part of lowering FSH ....
I agree with Donna (sn). Spend some time on www.ivfconnections.com....under "high fsh levels". That board is excellent !!!!!!! I can't tell you how informed those women are. I booked my consults with Cornell, Dr. Scher, and Dr. Wu based on so much of what they had to say.
High fsh levels are also linked to immune issues...so having immune testing done could also be key in finding out a solution.

Re: New blood test results today...
Kara, it sound slike you are doing everything right. I am sure with a little bit of time those #s will come down. And you were going to wait a month and try on your own anyway so now your body is just teling you that was the right decision. Maybe you'll get PG this month?

Re: New blood test results today...
Rose, thank you, that was very encouraging...
Michelle, thank you for the info. Mr. Dr. didn't say NOT to do the IVF, but we had dicussed waiting another cycle and he thought it was a good idea, especially considering my numbers. But he didn't refuse to do the IVF at all.
Acupuncture -- I've been going since November so it will be 3 months soon. I don't expect miracles, but I do hope for improvement. I have complete faith in my acupuncturist - she has excellent success rates with infertility. So hopefully time will show.
I would like to meet Dr. Davis, do you have a #? I am sure the wait is long but I'm not going anywhere, lol.
I've been on ivfconnections, and you are both right it is very informative. Thanks for all the tips ladies...
We will just have to try the old-fashioned way this month and move on. Just wish I could get rid of my nervous tic now!
