What are nice areas of Suffolk County
My husband and I are looking in Suffolk county to buy a house. I don't know anything about nice areas or good school districts. We've seen some nice houses in Patchoge and Ronkonkoma. Is it nice there? Any other good places? ( We want to get a smaller house to not have to depend on my slaary for the mortage. Any websites to look up school distrcts? I remember Newsday printing somethign a few years ago with all kinds of school stats... TIA

Re: What are nice areas of Suffolk County
My daughter lives in Patchogue and her house is very nice as is the area she lives in. Ronkonkoma, also, has some very nice areas. You may, also, want to try Holbrook and Holtsville.

I love where we are (centereach) We are on the side by South Setauket and Port Jeff Station. Nice neighborhoods, good prices and schools are good.

Re: What are nice areas of Suffolk County
Ronkonkoma is a beautiful area and good school district. There are some very nice areas of Patchogue - along with a few that arent so great. (IMO) DH and I love Blue Point and Bayport but the houses there are very expensive so we didnt wind up there! Sayville, Oakdale, East Islip area is also very nice. good luck and happy house hunting!

Re: What are nice areas of Suffolk County
i truly hate to bring this up, and please don't flame me here, but you should also look at the "hot zones', which are in the eastern area of suffolk, these are areas that have cancer clusters, many beleive these are environmental issues and there are higher rates in certain areas.

Re: What are nice areas of Suffolk County
I live in Patchogue and love it. Very nice place to live. The other places mentioned are very nice too, like Holbrook where I grew up and Ronkonkoma where DH grew up.

I really feel strongly about this, as well. There are many places I would love to live, but am afraid to.

Re: What are nice areas of Suffolk County
I am looking in Suffolk, and am staying in the following school districts:
Npt-E. Northport Sachem Smithtown Three Village
YOu can find affordable houses in Holbrook - and its in close proximity to the LIE.
I have heard about South Setauket and cancer clusters - so im nervous about buying there.
East Northport is cute - but alot of the homes in our price range need major work.
try posting on the home board..you may get more feedback!
good luck!

Re: What are nice areas of Suffolk County
Everyone's definition of nice can be very different... It all depends on your price range and what you are looking for... A few towns listed here are nice...

Those are all nice areas with very good school districts.
I agree - We are in East Setuket (Three Village Schools). Such a nice area.
I also like West Farmingville.

I live in WI and love it here! We considered moving for more space but are expanding instead - that's how much we like living here. Jesse is not in school yet but my understanding is that the schools are really good.

Re: What are nice areas of Suffolk County
Newsday.com has school reports. I live in N. Patchogue. I also wanted to stay at home. We are close to the parkways for my husband to travel. The N. Shore (by miller place, etc.) takes to long to get to the LIE. Patchogue has two different schools districts; Patchogue-Medford and South Country. Pat-Med is the better school district. I would stay away from South Country.

I grew up in Sayville and love it there. Also Bayport, Oakdale, and Bohemia are great towns.
I live in Sayville. It is a WONDERFUL and family friendly town! There are always events going on! Downtown is a great place to stroll around on a lazy day. We have Seafood Fest and Summerfest... I would definitely say check it out!
