What do truffles (not the chocolate ones) taste like?
These things are all over the place, and i have never tasted them. What do they taste like?

they are REALLY expensive because of the way they are found...by pigs!!
anyway...you usually just have thin slices of truffles on your food or its used to make truffle oil. The oil is REALLY good!!

earthy - like mushrooms.
Yes, they are expensive, because they are hard to find and I believe they only come from one region in Italy (or somewhere in Europe)

I have had them... in the thin sliced version on my food and have had truffles in olive oil-- I don't remember what it tasted like... but I don't remember hating it either.

I agree, to me they could have used a portobello or something because the taste was the same to me. With all the seasonings in the dish it really didn't matter anyway.

We had dinner 2 years ago at a fancy schmancy restaurant and someone got a truffle risotto - she requested some shaved truffles on top, and it cost an additional $80

i had hash browns made with truffle oil at a steak house once and I can never eat diner hash browns again!!
