Friend vent
i e-mailed a friend of mine to say we're staying in our apt to save money. we'll be able to save more for a house this way. i told her that we're fixing up the apt. we got a bed, a new dress and we'll be getting a small couch. she says i wouldn't spend loads of money on it since its not ours. ***!!!!! i couldn't believe she said that. she's living in this tiny apt in the city with her dh. there's hardly room. we want to make our apt look homey

Don't let it bother you too much. She's probably a little jealous.

Re: Friend vent
It's yours as long as you are living in it! Don't listen to people who tell you how to spend your $$$$. You earned it!

some people are just like that, make it your own, no matter if it was a cardboard box. Its your first place together, enjoy it.

Re: Friend vent
First of all, that makes NO sense. It is not your home because you pay rent instead of owning? It is your home for as long as you LIVE there - DUH!
Second, there is NO reason you shouldn't buy furniture - you'll use it when you have a house too! Maybe in a different room but, you can always use the furniture!
I just don't understand people sometimes!

Re: Friend vent
When DH & I moved into our apartment we wanted to make it as homey and cosy as possible for the duration of our stay. We bought real furniture and painted in warm tones. Out of our friends, our apartment is the closest to looking like a home and not a college dorm. You are entitled to spend YOUR money how you see fit. Don't let anyone tell you different!

Re: Friend vent
I don't think I would have taken it that way...I would think my friend was referring to making renovations (painting, replacing carpeting) not so much commenting on the purchase of furniture you need to live comfortably anywhere that may be.
