How to you get your baby to nap

Kevin has gone from taking one 20 minute catnap a day to needing 3-4 45 minute naps but he fights going down for them.

Do you have a naptime routine?

Re: How to you get your baby to nap

First, I try to put him down around the same time daily (give or take 30 min). When Nate starts rubbing his eyes, I start to slow down what we are doing. I found that he naps better on a bed than in his pack n play or crib. So, I lay a receiving blanket down and I lay him on his tummy or his side. I'll cover him with a blanket and rub his forhead until he falls asleep. He usually is asleep in less than 10 min. Now that he naps on the bed he sleeps on average 1 - 1.5 hours for each nap as opposed to 30 min when he was in the pack n play.

I try to give Alex 2 naps a day. Although, I have noticed on days when we go out to the stores or Gymboree naps are shorter. I think this is because he falls asleep in the car for a few minutes. On days that we are home I try to put him to bed around the same time. He usually wakes up at around b/w 6:30 - 7:30. I try to give him his first nap b/w 9:30 - 10:00. I put him in his crib and he usually fusses for about 5 - 10 minutes. Sometimes its a lot of crying sometimes its just complaining. But I usually leave him in there and he falls asleep. Usually the morning nap lasts anywhere from 45 minutes to 1.5 hours. Then in the afternoon I try to get him to nap around 2pm. It is the same routine. Then he is in bed for the night between 7 - 8pm, depending on the day.
