Does anybody have an inground pool?
If you dont mind me asking what does it cost for opening/ closing and weekly maintence...TIA I just got a price from a pool company it cost 350 to open 350 to close and like 45 bucks for cleaning a week but then they tell me it also cost an additional 40+ bucks for chemicals and week...

Re: Does anybody have an inground pool?
we have a semi inground , its only 2 feet out of the ground. Island Recreational has a special I forgot how much I think 300 and that included the chemicals. Im sure its on their website. Good luck, I think I may use them this year and for weekly cleanings too, we just dont have the time and Im sick of seeing some green sometimes.

$200- 250 to open and close. not sure about weekly maintenance. it is easy enough to do yourself.

Is is hard to do yourself? My uncle keeps telling me how easy it all is, but that's coming from a guy who has owned a pool his entire life and is retired!

Re: Does anybody have an inground pool?
We never had anyone open it. We did it ourselves. And as for cleaning it, ha ha, I got that job. But seriously, I enjoyed skimming and vacumming the pool because I was the first one to jump in. As for closing, we got someone to do it.

Re: Does anybody have an inground pool?
My dad has been in the pool business for over 30 years -- he does service -- openings and closings -- unfortunately because of his age (he just turned 60) he isn't taking on any new customers -- just the ones he's been taking care of for years -- most of his customers have been with him for 20 years plus.
I think he's about 150 for open and close, and 45/week for maintenance.
Most of his customers do bi-weekly maintenance though and have robotechs or polarises that keep thier pools clean inbetween.
I also worked at Dunrite Pools for 7 years through highschool and college. They are in bohemia but serve all of long island. I haven't worked there in a few years so I'm not sure of thier prices now but I know that they charged WAY less then that when I worked there about 5 years ago and they were very reliable. They've been in business and owned by the same owners since 1968.

Re: Does anybody have an inground pool?
We just bought a pool as well. We're sinking it in the ground. We plan on opening and closing the pool ourselves, also do the skimming and cleaning as well. I guess the chemicals do add up, but you figure you don't use the pool the whole year round, so it doesn't get that expensive.

Re: Does anybody have an inground pool?
we have an inground pool - it costs about $200-300 for all the chemical for the entire summer (we open and close it ourselves and clean it ourselves) Really not bad in price plus my electric bill doesn't really change in the summer (filter and Heat pump)

Re: Does anybody have an inground pool?
I also have to add that since I tested people's pool water and helped them add chemicals to balance the water -- that it doesn't have to be THAT expensive if you use the right kinds of chemicals. A lot of people use too many chlorine tabs or a calcium based powder chlorine and they can mess up the PH and other levels in your pool. You just have to use the right combo of chlorine and you shouldn't have to add much else.

Re: Does anybody have an inground pool?
I think we paid $185 to open last year (and to close)
our pool guy is $75 to clean, but we don't use him. We bought an aquabot and it is the best thing in the world. Its expensive, but it will be worth it...

Re: Does anybody have an inground pool?
I second the aquabot and also the "ORBS" that Island Rec sells. They are awesome - never had a green issue 1x.
