repost from LIw- would you be ok with a pregnant BM wearing a different dress?
Ok, so I just found out I am pregnant last week. I'm in my friends wedding in July, which means I'll be about 6 months pregnant. She knows that we were trying and is totally ok with the fact that I may have been pregnant for her wedding. But here's the problem.... all of the BM are wearing the same dress. Although the dress is very pretty, there's no way I'm going to be confortable and look like anything short of a sausage in it. It's strapless, tight and fishtails at the bottom. I am going to ask her if she would mind if I order a maternity dress in the same color. Now, the maternity dresses are chiffon and the BM dresses are satin, so they may be a little off. Would you be ok with your friend being a little different and huge and pregnant?
Oh, here are some pics. The first of the BM dress, and then 2 maternity ones. Image Attachment(s):

the 3rd ones style is way off and I wouldnt want it. I wouldnt think twice about you being noticably pregnant, but more the clash of the dresses. The 2nd one looks more like the first , and I would mention it. I can understand not wanting to try to fit into the 1st one. but what will do you do if ultimately she wants you to wear the 1st dress?

I think you need to be in whatever you feel most comfortable in.
And I like the first one better

I personally would not mind. I see pregnancy as a gift and a miracle and when you hear so many stories of couples trying to get pregnant and not being able to...that when you hear someone is pregnant.....I just get very happy. I wouldn't mind at all. And if the dress is the same color....even better. I'd want my friend to be there for me, which is what really counts for me instead of what dress she's wearing. Since she knows you were trying and this could happen, I don't think she'd mind either.

If she insists I wear the satin skin tight dress, then I'll probably wear it for photos and the ceremony, but will change into a more comfortable dress for the reception. If that's a problem, then I will be forced to step down as a BM. I wouldn't even know what size to order the dress in. Right now I'm a size 6, but who knows how big my belly will get in 6 months.

all my BM's wore different dresses so I would be totally fine with it. Perhaps, you should look for a maternity dress in satin that coordinates better.

Eden only has 2 satin maternity dresses and they don't come in the same colors as the regular BM dresses. I'm sure since it's the same company the colors would be close enough.

I would definitely not have a problem with it. I also think the first alternative would look better. However, don't underestimate yourself, I wore this dress (as strange as it seems!) at 34 weeks...

I agree 100%. The fact that you could find the same color is all that I'd hope. I would want you to look & feel as beautiful as you are. It's about having my friend by my side as I get married, not about whether she matches the style with my other friends.

Re: repost from LIw- would you be ok with a pregnant BM wearing a different dress?
Ok-- well when I selected BM dresses- I specifically picked a place where my girls could get a maternity dress since I knew two of them were trying.. while they all wore different dresses-- some the same, they got to choose.. my MOH who actually turned out to be due a week before the wedding had a challenge however..
My point is that she was told that she would look about 6 months prego right after she had the baby-- so this is when she and I went to try on dresses.
She tried on a dress that the other girls got, in a larger size to accommodate her belly. The dress was spaghetti strap, A-line, tea-length dress and it looked absolutely adorable on her. She also tried on some of the maternity dresses but the regular dress in a larger size was the best option.
My point is that perhaps you can't get the same exact dress-- but you may be able to get a similar style to that one that has a little more give to it and just get it in a larger size. You would look more uniform than in a maternity dress-- just a suggestion.
And btw-- I would be cool with whatever made you comfortable-- as long as it was the same color.

I personally would not mind if you ordered a dress in the same color that you were comfortable in. If she really cares and just wants her friend to be a part of her day, she'll be fine with it

Re: repost from LIw- would you be ok with a pregnant BM wearing a different dress?
my MOH was 8 months pregnant for my wedding. She wore the same color as my other girls - the material was slightly different (chiffon versus sating). Her dress was more flowy than the other girls - but overall she fit in perfectly. I think as long as the colors match and the overall look is the same, I can't imagine the bride having a hard time with it.

Re: repost from LIw- would you be ok with a pregnant BM wearing a different dress?
I wouldn't mind, but why don't you go to the store that you're ordering them from and see if you do order a larger size in that dress what they can do for you in terms of alterations once the dress comes in. They might be able to keep that dress in a similar style, but make it more "maternity-looking." You might pay an arm and a leg for the alterations, but I know I'd feel more comfortable telling my friend that was my idea than wearing a completely different dress. But then again, your friend may not care at all- did you talk to your friend yet?
