When/how to register?

When did you all begin to register? I went to the BRU website, and I feel like I'm reading Chinese.....how do you even get started? I know if I go to an actual store it will be worse Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: When/how to register?

We had a post about this the other day. But quite honestly, I started my registry at about 19-20 weeks.
My word of advice is to start researching things now. I wish I started researching things earlier - cause I felt like I was rushed. I didn't realize at the time why everyone was rushing me- but my shower was during my 28th week.

Re: When/how to register?

I actually started one - under a fake name, so no one can really buy off it, I did that just in case I make changes, I put basic stuff on there that I know I will need, but the gender won't matter - like stroller, baby monitor, stuff like that, I like a nuetral bedding set anyway, so I did it just for me to keep organized, but when I go to the store - there will be additions and deleltions to the list I am sure !

Re: When/how to register?

I did mine as soon as I found out the sex of the baby. You would think it would be easier to register online, but in all honestly, it's easier to register at the store. Sometimes the store has things that the online site doesn't and the store is just laid out in a more organized manner. Plus, it's easier to get hands on with things like strollers, so you can see weight and how it manuevers, etc.

Re: When/how to register?

First go and get the book called Baby Bargains. It rates everything for you. I took this book to the store with me and checked to see what the ratings were.

It is so overwhelming! I went with my sister and my neice (7 months old). It made it a lot easier to go with someone who knew what they were doing.

Re: When/how to register?

I first started out by registering online. I got the essentuals but left out the big items, like the stroller, bouncer, swing, etc...

Also, when I registered at home, I didn't have to sit down and fill out all the paperwork...I just told them my e-mail and they gave my DH and I a gun to start scanning.

Oops sorry!!

You know what I did - I looked at the list of recommended things and then I picked on thing at a time and started researching them.

Amazon and Consumers Reports are EXCELLENT for reviews.

Then, DH and I would pick one or 2 things at a time. One night we went to BRU JUST to find a stroller and infant carseat. That took a while to pick one out but then after we did, we went home (and we were exhausted!) LOL

The next time we went, we went to pick out the pack-n-play and bouncy seat - so we picked those 2 things and went home.

I kept a list of all the things we picked out - and after we found out the baby's gender at 20 wks, I went online and created my registry and added all the stuff we picked out. Then we went to the store and added more stuff.

Take it one step at a time. I highly suggest researching first though.

Re: When/how to register?

I agree it is easier to register at the store. They give you a nice package and checklist. I did it in about 3 or 4 trips. Good to tackle one section at a time. Then when I got home, I would go online and check out some of the reviews to get an idea what other parents thought.

Re: When/how to register?

we're not officially registering, but i did start a registry on BRU just to keep track of items i may buy...

i started to really get into the whole process after the level II. i started with the room and thought about what i would want for a Chat Icon or Chat Icon. once i found out what we will be having, i attacked the furniture...

first time i stepped into BRU i freaked and walked out. too overwhelming.

i bought the baby bargains book and together with the consumer reports essentials for baby list (a lot smaller and manageable), started to come up with my own list. once i narrowed down certain things to 2 or 3 items i went back to BRU and saw them in person.

then the hand-me-downs started pouring in Chat Icon

with 10 weeks to go we bought the furniture, some bedding, infant stroller and car seat. we inherited a co-sleeper, bouncy things, swings, some clothes etc. next on the list is a mattress, after that baby grooming essentials and whatever else i have missed!

Re: When/how to register?

I am soo a planner too, so I know how overwhelming registering is!!

I started at about 13-14 weeks. The first time i went to BRU, i thought I was going to cry and have an anxiety attack it was soo overwhelming.

I did some research through BRU website, girls on here, and my friends who have kids already. Slowly, I began adding things. I started with one big ticket item, like the stroller, researched, tried it out, then registered, and so on for everything. Then I did the little things, like blankets, mattress covers, burp cloths, bottles etc.

I prob finished at about 22 weeks.

I will all come togetherChat Icon Chat Icon

I just actually put everything online - I had started a while ago. I got the baby bargains book, and started with the big ticket items - stroller, carseat, etc. I would go to babies r us and be so lost and confused. I used the book, and just looked at one or two things. Then would read reviews on the babies r us online, and talk to friends. I just tried to do a little bit at a time...... I still have all the "little" items to do, I might go back next weekend when my mom is visiting so she can help. We will see though.
