Re: Weight Watchers question

personally - I'd stay away from the deli food. My best take out food is steamed dumplings or steamed veggies/chicken from a chinese place.

As for true "Fast food" - if you have to do it - stick with a hamburger or a chicken sandwich or a salad.....avoid cheese and stay away from the fries.

It gets easier - and it works. Good luck!

Re: Weight Watchers question

Skip the sauces, mayos or even cheese if you go for fast food.

Subway - has great low cal options, go for wheat bread
McDonalds - I'll get a happy meal (10 pts for a cheesburger and small fries) or a salad (use my own dressing from home)
Chinese - steamed veggies and sauteed chicken, I also like tomato pepper beef. I also ask for brown rice instead of white.

Dottie's Weight Loss Zone is really helpful with finding points for fast food places. The don't have points for everything on the menu, but you can also go to the company sites for nutrition info.

Re: Weight Watchers question

I was also going to say if you have to do fast food, stick to the grilled chicken sandwiches or the salads. I will sometimes get bean burritos from Taco Bell, they aren't too high in points.

I often will do chinese - egg drop soup, shrimp or chicken with broccoli with steamed rice. The steamed veggies are a good idea too, b/c the sauce comes on the side.

ETA: I just saw the post above - Subway is a good choice. I usually get a 6" turkey with no cheese and the veggie toppings.

Re: Weight Watchers question

I ate fast food a lot, and I lost 50lbs in 5 months. It's just a matter of how you use the points. Here's a website that was helpful to me. You can also use your points slider to calculate the points from the restaurants websites.

Re: Weight Watchers question

You can also do chinese and get shrimp with steamed veggies. Or Chicken with steamed veggies. Ask for the sauce on the side, and only use a little, if any at all.

Or, if you order from a pizza place or something, most places offer a garden salad. I would stick with that.

If you are going to McDonald's or something, I would get the garden salad and the chicken sandwich and take the bun off.

Good Luck!

I would say the light colored sauce is better than the brown sauce. It has less sodium. As far as the condiments, I would say none of them are good.

Re: Weight Watchers question

everyone had great suggestions...just when making choices go for key words like "grilled" instead of "fried" and def stay away from any sort of creamy sauce, they're pretty high in points

when i'm actually staying on program (which is hardly ever these days!!) when i eat out i like to get the egg drop soup and get an egg roll - very filling and although the egg roll is fried it's not too bad on points. i also like to get pizza (which is 8 pts), but that and a salad isn't too bad at all.

planning your day is most important, so if you know you are going to order out, then you can eat lighter foods the rest of the day. like 3 egg whites is only 1 point and if you have that with fruit you can have a really light filling breakfast...

okay you've inspired me to go back on ww now!! Chat Icon

Re: Weight Watchers question

Chinese wise I get chicken and steamed string beans or broc with sauce on the side. I always get a brown sauce because the garlic sauces have a lot more oil. I dip the chicken or shrimp in the sauce then mush it around the other stuff on my plate. I always get egg drop soup too. A cup of that is 1 pt! How cool! I have a few spoons of white rice because I hate brown rice.

If you to go Burger King or Mickey D's get a salad and grilled chicken sandwich, but order it w/o mayo or any mayo based sauces. Mickey Ds has a great hot mustard sauce they use for nuggets that works well with the sandwiches.

Pizza-I get one or two slices depending on how many pts I have left. Always get veggies on top to make it more filling. You can also get a salad or a veggie antipasto and use balsamic vinegar. Eat the salad first so you are not inclined to eat more pizza than you are actually hungry for. If you only end up eating one piece, don't feel like you have to eat the other piece..put it in the fridge.

Wendy's is great because you can have a small chili with no cheese and a salad with fat free dressing and a chicken sandwich...a lot of food..I think that ends up being 12 pts or something. They used to have the salad pitas and those were great!

Here's the WW weigh-in thread...also check out the entire Diet & Fitness boards.
LINK to WW WI thread

I also find the WW message boards to be very helpful.

Good luck!

Regarding the Chinese I always get the steamed chicken & broccoli with the brown sauce on the side. I get it off the "diet" menu and according to the place that I get it from they do not use MSG, salt or oils in the sauce, but you really never know.

Subway is also good...stick with chicken, turkey, veggies, etc.

I wouldn't recommend McD's, Wendy's etc, but that's just me.

Also the Lean Cuisine paninni's are great in a pinch. They taste good and are pretty filling add a salad with FF dressing if you want.
