Cost of child care
I'm 4 months pregnant and have no clue what this will cost when and if I go back to work. Ideally, I want to have someone come to my house and take care of my baby. Otherwise, I wouldn't mind taking them to someone else's house for childcare. Anyone have any idea how much this will cost? We're also kicking around the idea of getting a live in but I would prefer not to do that.
TIA for your responses!!

Re: Cost of child care
When I looked it was more $300-$500 a week depending on the experience of the person (this was through agencies)...you could try to find someone in the pennysaver and such and do your own background checks....
We also looked at tutor time and kiddie academy and that was about $1000 a month 5 days a week from 8am to 6pm

Re: Cost of child care
I pay someone to watch my baby in my home three days a week - $300/week. (It is my cousin though.) But I did some surveying of what people pay and it seemed in line. I work from home the other two days and do both although if I ask her to come in for a few hours if she is free she will and I will pay her by the hour.
It is long days from 6:30am to anwhere from 6:15 to 7pm - whenever I can get home. I pay them even if I take a day off or come home early. I will also pay for x number of sick/vacation days a year - so she has steady income.

Re: Cost of child care
I get a discount from my job but my daycare charges $1200/month for an infant. The price goes down as the child gets older to $800/month for a preschooler.

Re: Cost of child care
My mom does day care out of the house and has been doing this for the past 20yrs. She actually is still young, She does it private, her own business, and I dont think the cost is as high as the others responded. She has no more than 5 kids especially is there are any babies under age 2. FM if you are intested. Oh and she is located in Bethpage and Im sure I can find references for you.

I used to use a woman when my daughter was in Kindergarten and she charged $150/week. That was for anything over 3 hours, 3 hours and under she charged $5/hr.
