Official RENT: the movie thread.

I LOVED IT.

It was great, great, great.

I laughed hysterically and bawled at the same time...Rich even loved it. He said to find out when it's coming out on DVD!

I'm not going to spoil anything, but I loved it.

I heard mixed feelings from people as they were leaving the theater, though...some people loved it, and some were complaining that it was disappointing.

Hey, anything that gives me goosebumps is worth the $9.50 i paid to get in.

Re: Official RENT: the movie thread.

I just got home, and I have mixed feeling about it. It entertained me and I was totally engrossed for the 2 1/2 hours. There were some things they did that I loved, and some that I didn't. Some of the parts where they were literally speaking the lyrics made me roll my eyes and crack up.

I don't know how people who have never seen rent will perceive the movie. I know the characters very well, but I feel like character development was a little lacking in the movie. I thought the beginning was a little too long, and "act 2" was a bit too rushed, especially with cutting out Goodbye love.

I'm seeing it again on Saturday night, so I think I'll have a better idea of my true feelings after that.

Re: Official RENT: the movie thread.

Saw it last night and the songs are still going thru my head.

I had seen it on Broadway with the original cast so this was awesome.

I thought Rosario Dawson was good, but Daphne Rubin Vega will always be Mimi for me.

My nose is still stuffy from crying! I loved it!!!!!

I guess it is impossible to leave everything in from the original show. I have to say that I LOVED IT! I am still crying. The music is amazing, and it really moved me all over again.

I loved it! I liked that in the movie they were (obviously) able to use different camera angles - like when Mimi and Roger were singing - and one of the first scenes when they were throwing the paper and fire. Loved it! Chat Icon

Re: Official RENT: the movie thread.

I too was a little disappointed that Halloween and Goodbye Love were cut.

Even if they had to take the songs out, those were two very emotional pieces (where Mark realizes he's not LIVING life, just taping it and Mimi's breakdown) and I felt the ending lost some of the oomph because of that.

I would have rather seen Santa Fe cut out (although I did love Jesse L Martin on the subway!)

But I thought Rosario did a nice job, Idina was amazing and Taye Diggs is just soooo pretty!!

I completely felt the same. Overall I completley loved it!!! I already feel like I know the characthers so no need for development for me.

I bought the CD before i even saw the play and I know the entire soundtrack by heart. Goodbye Love is actually one of my least favorite songs, so I could deal with it being gone.

I thought it was wierd that they ignored the whole "his girlfriend April left a note saying 'we got AIDS' before killing herself in the bathroom". I also wondered why they got rid of the beginning of Act II when they break into the apartment on New Years Eve, before the Countdown- "how do you dress for a party that's also a crime" I LOVE that line!!!

Rosario wasn't that bad, but why didn't they have the original Mimi!!

That's a good reason. I'm glad to hear its not something like they wanted more star power.

The reason that she was not in the film is also because she just looks way too old for that role now.
