Grieving Nassau County taxes --

Can anyone tell me how to do this? Or is it through the Town of Hempstead?

We just realized that we are paying OVER $7,000/year -- in SCHOOL taxes. Is there any way to fight this too?? McArthur is NOT that great of a school to be paying this insane amount.

Re: Grieving Nassau County taxes --

I don't think you can grieve school taxes specifically.

There is a deadline for grieving your taxes, but it might have passed.

That's why I am glad we are in the Island Trees school district, the taxes are lower than Levittown, because all the businesses on Hempstead Turnpike are considered part of Island Trees.

Re: Grieving Nassau County taxes --

MacArthur is probably taxed the highest out of Island Trees and Levittown Division.

You can grieve them on the web. But they key is... you have to find houses... like yours that are taxed at a lower rate.

I just did this over the web and could help you. But I would need some information... mainly your section, block, and lot number. I can then tell you which houses you need to "compete against" to get your taxes lowered.

Granted... I am not an expert so I can't guarantee anything. But I think I have a good grasp on how to do this on your own.

Re: Grieving Nassau County taxes --

Thank you both!! I got on the Nassau COunty website and figured it out -- put in a recent sale as an example too. Also they have us as a 2-family dwelling (used to be an apt. in the basement but not anymore) so I am hoping this will help.

I got it in today, whew!!

Next project will probably be looking for a new house in Rockland Cty or CT. Chat Icon

The key is... when you do it on the web and you are at that final screen to confirm... get it so it says UNCERTAIN (or better). You don't want it to say something like probably not, or unlikely.

You used to be able to print the forms online and mail them in. I think they changed it to picking up the forms at their office. Hmmm, I wonder why....

My assessment challenges get turned down every year, so I actually decided to not even bother this year as we probably won't in even be in the house for the future assessment period that we'd be challenging.

Re: Grieving Nassau County taxes --

Thanks, now how do you know if it's worth it. I looked at comparable sales and my taxes are actually lower....but the market value of my house is ridiculously overpriced. We paid about $150K less than what they have on there, so I'm not sure what to do.

Thanks for the link. I'm tired of The Man keeping me down, so despite saying I wouldn't (when I thought you had to pick up the forms), I filed.
