Jewish moms who did not bring anything into house

I was trying to keep with tradition/Superstition rules of the Jewish faith, but I am finding that it is going to be very difficult to not bring or buy anything before the baby gets here. How did you ladies handle it? Thanks!

Re: Jewish moms who did not bring anything into house

Hi,

I am trying to stick to jewish tradition myelf but it is very hard. What we are doing is carpeting and painting the baby room however we are not bringing anything into the house until the baby is born.

Behr's just called us and our furniture is in however we are not having it delivered until the baby is born.

I haven't been buying that much, that is where my mother comes in. We have gotten the baby's layette at Denny's, and a couple of people have bought stuff off the registry although I don't think much more will until after the bris, and that stuff is at my mother's also..

Many of my friends have done the same, I think that it is very hard not to have anything done...but I understand why many people wouldn't just in case....

Hope this helps

Re: Jewish moms who did not bring anything into house

Thanks for responding. I am also getting the room painted and carpeted. I thought about all of this yesterday when a package came in the mail from a friend and inside was something for the baby. I guess I will put it in my car until after the baby is born. A few weeks ago someone gave me a gift and I was caught off guard and just told her that I am not accepting anything until after the baby is born.

What are you doing as far as the essentials you need when the baby comes home such as diapers, formula, clothing, wipes, washed clothing, etc?

Under the tradition, are we allowed to buy things and keep it somewhere else or is it considered untraditional to purchase anything. If it is, I was thinking of taking someone to the store with me, giving them money, picking out what I want and they would purchase it.

We got a gift from someone and I put it in myt runk and drove it it to my mother's. If you have someone you can keep stuff at that is great.

For essentials, like I said we will be keeping everything at my mother's until I give birth..

I am also trying to keep to the tradition - we carpeted/painted - but all else is at mom's house. There are a few things people sent us - big items - we have been storing them in the garage.

I think though as it gets closer I will have to **** it up - buy the essentials and just keep them in the basement so they will be there when I return from the hospital (things like diapers, wipes, powder, bottles, etc....)

Re: Jewish moms who did not bring anything into house

We were not going to bring anything into the house but find that this is virtually impossible without really making life hard for DH in those first few days after the baby is born.

Here was the compromise. My parents bought us the "need the day the baby is born" stuff. We did put it in the house, still in bags. Also, we wanted to take the car seat to the police station to install before the baby is born. It is by appointment and is done once a month. So we are doing it in the month before the baby is born. I would not want to take the chance of driving the baby home not having installed it properly.

Re: Jewish moms who did not bring anything into house

Eight years ago hubby brought everything over and did everything when I was in the hospital. I was a little upset I couldnt do it the way I really wanted to, but I was keeping with tradition, also. I think he did a great job and he was very creative with it so I give him kudos for it all.
