Gifts of alcohol for nursing home residents?
I am totally at a loss for what to get my nana for Christmas. She's 93, and to be honest, the only thing I bet she really wants is a bottle of Hennessy. I am so tempted to get one for her but I don't want to cause problems.
The only meds she's on are the same ones she's been on for years and years, and I pretty much have been buying her a bottle at least once a year for the last ten. I am torn. She does not need another framed pic of me and DH!

Can you call the nursing home and ask if that is ok?

Re: Gifts of alcohol for nursing home residents?
My grandather got to an age where we just bought him brandy and chocolates for Christmas, since he didn't need anything else. I think, however, my uncle who lived locally used to bring it to him. I don't think the home had a problem with him drinking it, but didn't want anyone leaving the bottle there.

If I wasn't a total pinhead I would have thought of that! That's what I'll do. Thanks.
Can you tell I need this vacation?

My grandmother loved a shot of Baileys in her afternoon coffee. If it was up to me I would have given it to the poor thing every day. I think it settled her stomach. I'm sure she would have went with a smile. RIP Grams !

Re: Gifts of alcohol for nursing home residents?
Defintely check with the Home, when my grandmother was in a nursing home I am 99% sure she was not allowed alcohol in her room. Alot of them take medication and I think if the staff does not know they are drinking or they imbibe a little too much that can't be good.
Also, my father was bringing, at my grandmothers request a bottle of mouthwash a week to her. The staff asked him to stop because they swore she must have been drinking it!

I would defintely check with the nursing home. I used to work in a nursing home and alcohol had to be approved by the doctor and stored with the nurses.

I worked at a nursing home and people would bring in liqour to their family all the time. As long as it doesn't intefere with meds it's not a problem. Sometimes family would leave it with the nurses and when the patient would ask for a drink they would give it to them.
