Those that are not decorating the baby's room before coming home...
Traditionally speaking, people in my religion do not believe in bringing home anything before the baby is born. My question is, what do I do with the furniture? Do I have it delivered after the baby is born? Also, we aren't finding out the sex so the room will be painteda neutral color. I really want the baby to sleep in the crip right away. The baby's room is right across the hall so I can easily access it.

We don't know the sex either so I'm not painting or decorating until after the baby is born. I WILL be buying furniture soon though; but the baby will sleep in the pack 'n play in our room for a few weeks. Would that be something that you could do? Have the baby sleep in your room until the nursery furniture arrives? I don't think the baby will mind

Re: Those that are not decorating the baby's room before coming home...
I'm Jewish- and traditionally, we don't set up the nursery until the baby is born. I don't want to get anything for the baby before she is born. I am putting the baby in a bassinette for the first 3 months. then I plan on putting the baby in the crib.
You can order the furniture a few months before she is due and have them deliver it after the baby is born. You can also buy something that is in stock and they can deliver it when the baby is born, or you can have them put it together and leave it at someone else's house.

Thanks Shelly. I'm Jewish too I didn't want to start out with the bassinet, hoping to go right to a crib. The pack and play is an option though. Like Ann said, she (or he) won't know the difference anyway! I guess I could just have the store hold onto the delivery until I deliver. I didn't think about that! I don't really know too many people in my area. I guess I could have it delivered to my parents house but that will be a pain to get it all to my house.

Lots of people use the pack and play at first. I think that's a great idea.

Re: Those that are not decorating the baby's room before coming home...
I know that a couple of places, such as Behr's, can deliver the furniture right after the baby is born. A friend of mine did this because if it was a girl they wanted white furniture and if it was a boy they wanted cherrywood. As soon as their baby boy was born they called the store and told them what color they wanted and it was delivered in a couple of days. Maybe this is something you could look into.

That is a good idea, too. Thank you. I live in NJ though. Is there a Behr's down here?
