Baby's Heartbeat - beats per minute
I know there is an old wives tale that says if the baby's heartbeat is fast, it's a girl..and if it's slower, its a boy.
I was wondering if anyone has found this to be true?
What was your baby's heartrate and is/was it a boy or a girl?
My baby's heartrate is about 160 bpm, but we don't know the sex yet.

Good question! I was also wondering, what is considered 'fast'?

Re: Baby's Heartbeat - beats per minute
I've read online that "normal" range for babies (in utero) is 140-160 bpm. I think average is about 150 but I don't know.

Re: Baby's Heartbeat - beats per minute
Baby's heartbeat is 140 beats/min or less: BOY Baby's heartbeat is over 140 beats/min: GIRL
THat's the wives tale. It was true to me...
BTW- a lot of the old wive's tale stuff and the Chinese Gender prediction from ivillage.com said girl- and so did the sonogram technician... so ... draw your own conclusions

Oh no, their heartbeats start out slower and get faster, your baby is fine. My fist hearbeat reading with my baby was 118 bpm. As they get bigger, the heartbeat gets faster and will top out around 140-160 for the rest of the pregnancy.

Re: Baby's Heartbeat - beats per minute
at 6.5 weeks it was 120
at 11.5 weeks it was 150
don't know if its a boy or a girl, we're not finding out (not that we could yet anyway)

Re: Baby's Heartbeat - beats per minute
Our baby's heart rate was 178 at 8.5 weeks. However, the Chinese gender prediction chart says boy, and I think boy as well. (Based on just a feeling.)

Re: Baby's Heartbeat - beats per minute
Nope, ever true for me, heartbeat for my 1sy was about 140 and I had a girl, 2nd was about 155 I had a girl and last baby was 150 and it was boy. I think it all depends on YOUR genetics rather than the baby's. This is definitely an old wives tale, no medical proof.

My son's HB was pretty much always 150bpm. The chinese chart was correct for me though.

Re: Baby's Heartbeat - beats per minute
Emma was consistantly around 140-145 Jeremy was 135-140.
Yes she was higher but it could have gone either way
FYI - Babies heart rate slow but gets faster until your 12 week (where it should be its fastest) then slowly goes down to a regular rate for the rest of your pregnancy.
