Help! Dr. Brown bottle question!
My son is due 3/7 and of course I am constantly nesting and reorganizing and reorganizing everything I received from my shower and a couple of the moms at my shower said that Dr. Brown is the best for bottle. Of course, I registered for Avent.
I did a search and saw a lot of positive posts for Dr. Brown bottles. So, I plan to go to BRU after work and pick them up.
My question...I plan to breastfeed and use bottles when I have to (at night and when I go back to work--he will be 3 months old).
What size nipple do I buy? I saw that there is a wide nipple, stage 1, stage 2. I saw great posts about the wide nipple--but will he be too small for it??
Thanks!

Re: Help! Dr. Brown bottle question!
If you are breastfeeding you should use the stage 1 nipple. Nipples have a faster flow than the breast and you don't want the baby to get lazy and prefer that. the stage 1 will make him work for the milk and reduce nipple confusion.
I use the regular skinny ones. My son hated the wide neck bottle. He is still not a big fan and I have been back to work since July. He prefers me. That makes me happy! The first few days he only would drink 5 oz! I was scared!

Katie is 2 1/2 months and we still use 1. I also use the skinny ones.

We use Size 1 nipples and the wideneck ones (we had the skinny ones too, but my son hated them).
Which ever bottle you choose, buy the 8 oz bottles and don't waste $$ on the 4 oz bottles since babies take 4oz or less for a short period of time.

Re: Help! Dr. Brown bottle question!
My son only takes four ounces of breastmilk or less at a feeding. Since I am away at work and pumping milk you don't want to waste it so I have my mom give him small amounts. He averaged 16 ounces while I was away and takes a little less now that he is 10 months old and on solids.

Re: Help! Dr. Brown bottle question!
I got the wide-neck because I heard they were more conducive to BFing. But I was never able to BF so it didn't matter.
Definitely start off with level 1.

Re: Help! Dr. Brown bottle question!
wide and narrow refer to the bottle shape, not the nipple. I used the narrow, for no particular reason, and had no problems. The starter pack should come with level 1 nipples, they are the slowest flow, and those are the ones you want. Ordinarily, at about 3 months, you can switch your baby to level 2 nipples, because they are ready for a faster flow - BUT if you are also nursing, do NOT make the switch. I switched nipples and within a day angela weaned herself off of the breast at 5 months - the bottle was so much easier. I later found out that if breastfeeding, you should stay with level one nipples.

Re: Help! Dr. Brown bottle question!
I would say to definitley use a stage 1 nipple. We have used the skinny ones and she has no problems switching back and forth.
