Prime Apple and Pumpkin picking time?
I know whenever we have gone apple picking, it seems like most of the apples are rotting on the ground (obviously we go too late in the season). And I know I want a pumpkin to carve for Halloween but I would like to have it out on the front porch for decoration for a while. Anyone know when to go?

Different apples are in season at different times, starting in Mid september.
Accordign to the place I usally go in Yorktown heights, Pumpkins start in Ovtoboer.
We usually go in mid October, but we don't pick apples, We buy pre-picked apples & pumpkins.
The one time I did pick, we went Columbus day weekend.
After that is usally too late for apples.

The orchards up here in the Hudson Valley are already prime for picking! (some varieties may be a little later)
And they are reporting that is a very good season this year, they had the perfect weather for apple growing!

We always go up to North Salem (Hardscrabble Rd.) for apple and pumpkin picking.

We go to Maskers, The last weekend of September has the most ripe varieties, according to their schedule.

The Milk Pail in South Hampton lists what is ripe on their homepage. They are pretty accurate! Heres a list of all their apples and when they ripen...

We go to Lewins in Wading River. We went around this time last year and the apples were great. We also got pumpkins but not many made it until Halloween.
