Re: Weissbluth - Healthy Sleep Habits...
It did teach me his sleepy signs and I purchased the book when DS was 8 weeks old. I thought DS was taking late naps because he would fall asleep around 7 and then I would wake him up around 9 to feed him and get him ready for bed. After reading parts of the book I realized he was probably ready for bed and I made 7 his new bedtime and he slept until 5 or 6am the first night and will sleep until 6 now at almost 4 months old. I also just started tring his techniques for naps and it does seem to need them. So for every1.5 hours he is up I try to put him down for a nap and he will nap for about 1/2 hour and that doest disrupt how long he sleeps for at night, so he still sleep between 11 and 12 hours a night. I have been very happy with the success.

Re: Weissbluth - Healthy Sleep Habits...
Swear by it! I think I started reading it around when she was 8 weeks....maybe later...took me awhile too because I'd be so tired I couldn't read after she went down!!!
She went from every 2 1/2 hrs, to waking up twice at night for feedings, then only one feeding around 4:30am but sometimes as late as 6:30am. Then she dropped that!!
People tell me I'm nuts for putting my baby to sleep around 6pm (sometimes 7 at THE absolute latest) and that I have no life, blah blah blah......she sleeps 12 hrs! She fusses here and there for the paci, but that's it!
Actually...she dictated the 6pm bedtime....one day she fussed for her last bottle early.....went to sleep after and just kept on sleeping.
And in the mornings, I'm LUCKY if she makes the 2 hr mark! This AM it was 1 1/2 hrs after waking that she started getting sleepy.
I have days where she'll be awake for 3 hrs....heck I had one afternoon where she was awake for 6 hrs! But she is 7 months old now and when she has a good 2 hr nap I see the difference from a 20 min nap.

I got a lot of slack also (Still do) about putting Talia to bed by 7 the latest...but you know what - even at 11 months old, if she isn't in bed by 7 - she doesn't sleep well at night.
She also doesn't make it up past 2 hours in the am without her first nap...that nap (according to Dr.w) is SO important - and you can totally tell. Without it she is a monster.

Re: Weissbluth - Healthy Sleep Habits...
well when she was taking three naps a day I would give her the mid day nap in the car/stroller (I know he says not to = but it worked for us)
Now that she takes two naps - I go out when she wakes up from her first nap (Around 10:30) and I try to make it home by 2:30 for her second nap.
It does limit my time out and things I have to do - but it's worth it. (then if she is down by 7 and my DH is home I can go out and run some errands)

Re: Weissbluth - Healthy Sleep Habits...
That book saved us in the beginning. At 3 months, I was finally able to get Nate on a napping schedule. He took 3 naps and went to bed by 7:30pm. Routine and consistency is the key. At 14 months, Nate is still on a schedule. He takes 2 naps (10am and 3pm) and is in bed by 7:30pm.

Re: Weissbluth - Healthy Sleep Habits...
I get slack for putting him to bed early because about two weeks ago for an entire week he was going to be at 6:30 and wake up at 6 but their was nothing I could do. My parents think I am a little nutty for putting him on a schedule for eating and sleeping but it makes it easy for both of us. People can complain all they want but at the end of the day they aren't the ones that have to deal with a fussy baby, we are. If we go out in the afternoon he will fallsleep in the carrier or the car. He also sets the schedule for me. He eats every 3 hours between 6/6:30 am and 6:30 pm. But we have days were he gets up later like today. He went to bed last night at 7:45, woke up at 9 at and then was tired by 10 and fell asleep at 10:15 and is still sleeping. I felt once I picked up on his cues it was so easy to follow the book.

Re: Weissbluth - Healthy Sleep Habits...
with me, it's different...she comes to work with me and doesn't nap nearly as well there.
We do her AM nap at home.....depends on what time she wakes up. Her normal wake time is around 7, eats around 8, and is back down by 9am usually. She was waking aorund 6:30 for about a week or 2....and we just shifted....she'd be down at 8:30am. She'll sleep 2 or 2 1/2 hrs at the most at home....today was 1 1/2 hrs.
Then we go to work, lunch at 12, bottle around 1 and hopefully napping by 2 for all of an hour if I'm lucky. Dinner is at 4, 4:30 the latest then we go home at 5, bedtime bottle at 5:45 and down around 6-6:30. There are nights she fights bedtime and I'll let her fuss/cry/roll around till she falls asleep.
On our days off her afternoon nap is usually a decent one too.....today: napped from 8:45-10:15. Lunch at 11:45ish. She just went down for her nap (12:45) and I'm hoping it'll be a 2 hr one.
ETA: sometimes she catnaps in the car on the way home for 15-20 min.
