I have heard conflicting stories. I know you should not have x rays done when you are pregnant, but is it ok to go for a cleanings. I tend to have gum issues so I wanted to know if it would be ok to continue going.

Definately continue to go for cleanings- just no e-rays unless absolutely necessary.

ABSOLUTELY, gum disease can cause low birth weight, amongst other diseases in the body. You most certainly should get cleanings during a PG b/c of the hormonal changes and if you have gum problems prior to getting PG if you were my patient I would put you on 3 month recalls till the end of your term. Then while you are nursing if everything appears to be ok put you back to 6 months. Good Luck!
