Kitchen Makeover-??
We went to Home Depot a few months ago to get prices and the woman quoted $9,000 to get a nice kitchen and countertops. With appliances, labor and lighting would you think $20,000 would be enough to estimate the whole job? I need to know how much of a loan I need to get. Thanks!

Re: Kitchen Makeover-??
that sounds like enough to me....it also depends on what kind of appliances you are looking to get.

Re: Kitchen Makeover-??
It cost us a lot less than $20K... and our cabinets/countertops were about the same price as you were quoted. The only thing is we did the cabinet installation ourselves. The cabinets were about $6K (we install) Granite countertops about $3K Tile floor plus labor about $1.5K 4 Black Appliances: Less than $2K Tile backsplash $200 (we did it, no labor charge) Lighting about $500 Sink/faucet/everything else: less than $1K

Re: Kitchen Makeover-??
with labor 20,000 is pretty average for a decent size kitchen. if you can do it yourself it does save alot of money

Re: Kitchen Makeover-??
Check out Ikea -- they have great cabinets, very well made, for less $$ thank anywhere we looked at -- including HD.

Re: Kitchen Makeover-??
we just did re-did our kitchen. Without labor charges (we did it all ourselves) it cost close to 20k. What size is your kitchen?

Our kitchen is the average 10 x 10 (??). Home Depot said their laborers charge $6,000. I don't how much my contractor would charge but I would think somewhere around that.

Re: Kitchen Makeover-??
We did our kitchen ourselves, and bought the cabinets from Ikea. It cost next to nothing -
Cabinets - $3k (we installed) Wood block countertops - $500 Tile and backsplash (installed ourselves - from Home Depot) - $600 New Appliances/sink - $2.5k Lighting - about $1k
Here are some pictures so you can see how it looks (the bottom picture is before, the top picture is after)

Re: Kitchen Makeover-??
We are redoing our 8x8 kitchen right now.
We purchased our cabinets from Home Depot for $2,500 (we are hanging ourselves).
Our countertop is a solid surface like Corian, but their cheaper version- $1700 (includes installation)
Tile floor- $500 (did the tiling ourselves)
tile backsplash- $200 (doing ourselves)
Over the range microwave - $300
We went into this project armed with a book on tiling and instructions for hanging the cabinets. It has been time consuming and at times difficult, but for all the money we are saving it is worth it. The only words of caution are to double check the measurements that Home Depot does for you. We have half of our kitchen still to finish because they messed up our measurements and then would not return our calls. We finally have the correct items ordered and hope to be able to finish it by the end of the month.
