BF Moms..I have a question
Today my doctor said to give my DS vitamin drops daily or every other day. I am BF exclusively. I read that BF babies get all of the nutrients that they need from the BM. Should I listen to the doctor?
PS MY baby is thriving, he is weighing in at almost 14 pounds at 10 weeks

Re: BF Moms..I have a question
I was always under the impression that BF babies don't need extra vitamins, and my dr. never told me to give them to Ava.

Re: BF Moms..I have a question
my ped recommended daily vitamins (tri vi sol), and I was BF exclusively. He said when we start supplementing using formula (which we have), I could use the vitamins every other day.

Re: BF Moms..I have a question
I read somewhere - it could have been kellymom.com that BF babies needed vitamins so I asked my Ped and she agreed and I have been giving my DD tri vi sol since about 2 months.....It pisses me off that the ped didnt suggest it first...I am also vegetarian so was worried that my diet might not be suffiient for DD.
My dd likes them as its the only thing she had other than breast milk up until this week.....

Re: BF Moms..I have a question
I didn't use vitamins, but that is because my doctor told me not to. I don't think you can do harm either way.
My opinion though -- if you aren't going to listen to your doctor, you may need a new doctor!

Re: BF Moms..I have a question
My ped said they were vitamin D drops and I would have to give them if I exclusively bfed. I was shocked because I thought breastmilk would have all she needed. My DH's cousin (a ped) said the supplement is needed because we don't want to expose our babies to the sun before 6 months and that is where BF babies would normally get their vitamin D.

That makes sense.

Re: BF Moms..I have a question
My DS was a BF baby for one year and my ped did give us a prescription for vitamins. DS hated them! We gave them to him anyway. We have a different liquid vitamin now and he loves them (no more BF).

I really like my doctor. I should of asked him more about it when I was there, but the baby was getting his first shots today and I wasn't thinking.

Re: BF Moms..I have a question
We were not told to use vitamins. However, I have been told by an LC that once you hit 6 mos they need to have vitamins, specifically she said iron. Have not gotten this far yet so I haven't discussed it with Ped.

Re: BF Moms..I have a question
I give my DD the Vitamin D vitamins. My doctor recommended them also. It does makes sense since we get Vitamin D frmo the sun and DD has not had sun exposure yet.

Re: BF Moms..I have a question
Seems difference of opinions between doctor's because my doctor didn't prescribe them for my son and my friend's doctor did.
