she slept in the bed wih us and it took so much effort to even get her to fall asleep.....
could it be because we were at work from 11-5 yesterday?

Did you put her down awake or did you wait for her to fall asleep first then put her in the crib?

Re: we tried the crib last night...
Sandra: I tried both awake and asleep....when she was awake, she started to cry and when she was asleep, she'd wake up and start to cry
Melissa: she is co-sleeping in our bed since she'll sleep for 5-7 hours with us and when we started we said "by any means necessary" to get some sleep for ourselves.
ETA: she'll be 7 weeks tomorrow

Re: we tried the crib last night...
do you have a bassinet you can keep close by and try first? 7 weeks might be a little early for the crib -- especially since its so much bigger and open then in your bed.

Re: we tried the crib last night...
First try getting her to nap well during the day today. Try putting her down for a nap after she's been awake for no more than 2 hrs. 1.5 hrs of wakefulness is probably better since she is still so little. She needs around 12 - 15 hrs of sleep total a day. If she's getting significantly less than that, she's probably overtired and that won't help you to get her to sleep in the crib.
ETA: Do you use the Sleep Sack or the positioner?

we do and she doesn't stay asleep in that either!
Is 7 weeks too early? Sandra had Jake in his crib at 1 month (she posted this yesterday or a few days ago)

The good thing is she does stay awake for a good 1.5 hours after eating and will fall asleep while being held or in the car or swing, etc.
I have a postioner and tried it in the bassinet and she didn't seem to like or dislike it really.... is it supposed to be tight or loose (it's adjustable).

Re: we tried the crib last night...
We've had Alex in her crib since 3 weeks, so no, I don't think it's necessarily too early, but it may be too wide open for her. Have you tried a sleep positioner? That was the only way we were able to get Alex to sleep in the crib. I think she likes being snuggled up against something... we still use it to this day and she's almost 5 months.
I know for us (and we have a very HIGH NEEDS baby), the only way we got her to sleep in the crib was to nurse and rock her to sleep first. She would have to be asleep for a good 15 minutes in my arms before I could put her down in the crib and she would stay asleep....

Tight... so she really feels snuggled inside of something

Re: we tried the crib last night...
I'll try the positioner and make it a little more snug for her.
See Beth....she could be asleep for 30 minutes in my arms and STILL wake up when put down in the bassinet OR the crib.
I guess I have to keep trying. Last night I was so frustrated I cried.

That was the only way we were able to get Alex to sleep in the crib. I think she likes being snuggled up against something... we still use it to this day and she's almost 5 months.
This is exactly why I asked. I also think the positioner helps maintain that snuggled up feeling and it may help. It doesn't have to be tight, but I think keep it snug is what helps. We just stopped using it last month, when Jake was 6 months. The sleep sack I like because it keeps them nice and warm, yet it's safer than a blanket, and not as tight as swaddling, in case she doesn't like swaddling (Jake didn't). So I think the combination of warm and snug is what helped.
Also, this might just take a couple of days for Aly also. Jake took to the crib well right off the bat for nighttime sleep, but it was not as easy for naps for some reason.
ETA: Also, in the beginning, we angled the mattress in the crib and I believe that helped.

I think it might just have to take one or two nights of pure hell. What I would do is set up the positioner so she's snug (also, have you tried laying her on her side? Alex falls asleep much better that way, especially when she's gassy). Rock her to sleep and put her down, if she wakes up crying, pick her up, rock her again until she's asleep and put her down. I'd just continue that way until she eventually falls asleep in the bassinet or crib. It will be hell for a few days, you won't get much sleep, but she should start to adapt within a day or so

Re: we tried the crib last night...
Jack is 13 weeks and still sleeps in his cradle. He sleeps from 8:30 am to 7am so I am so afraid to put him in his crib, I don't want to ruin a good thinG!
How do they know anyway? He is really getting too big for his cradle.
Hang in there Shana it will get better
ETA: My SIL always says it takes 3 days to change a habit. So I would give it 3 days and see what happens.

Re: we tried the crib last night...
We tried the crib quite a few times early on and Emily wouldn't do it until almost 3 months and then it was almost instant -- but every baby is different.
The sleep positioner definately does help. Emily only stopped using hers last week and she is going on 5 mos.
