Hand Pump enough for rice?

Hi,

In my previous post I said that I hated the smell of formula. I need to have something to mix my DD's rice with - other than water - I used water today but dont want to continue as I would rather her get something more nutritious....the thing is I have never pumped and dont own a pump other than a manual pump they gave me at the hospital - its still in the bag, I havent even looked at it.

Do you think I could pump enough just for her rice? Is it worth it or should I just hold my nose and give her formula?

BTW, this is day 3 of trying to get her to eat some rice and she takes less than a teaspoon, makes some awful faces and then clamps her mouth shut and turns away.

I guess mammas milk must taste betterChat Icon

Re: Hand Pump enough for rice?

The handpump should be plenty for the cereal. I know some girls who pump directly into the cerealChat Icon

That is too funny...I was actually thinking of doing that...just holding the boob over the bowlChat Icon if it would work I would do it!!!

Dont you have to heat it up first? could I just microwave it then?

Hmmm, I'd assume it's pretty warm coming straight from the "tap"Chat Icon

Of course your milk tastes better Chat Icon Go ahead and try the pump. That is so nice the hospital gave you one, we bought a hand pump and an electric one but I wound up exclusively nursing so barely use them. Sure you can hand express as well.

P.S. NO microwaving for breast milk, it destroys precious nutrients.

Re: Hand Pump enough for rice?

This is going to sound bizarre but my mom had a great milk supply and was a master BFer and she used to just manually express it in to mix with the careal.

I never understood my mom. SHe must have been the uber breastfeeder because she could squeeze out a whole bottle for my sister. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

So I'd say the handpump should be fine!

Chat Icon Chat Icon WOW....way to go your mom!!

I think I might try the hand pump and will give it to her at the temp it "arrives" at so I wont have to use the microwave.....

Thanks a lot.Chat Icon
