Re: If you hosted a formal party and someone wants to bring 2 young children...what do you do?
are they super close and will make or break the good time at the party for the guest of honor? If they are the life of the party, I would allow the kids. If not, I would tell them no.

if this is already a sore subject and you think might only cause you grief.... Then i wouldn't bother putting up the fight...You really don't notice 2 kids.

You said they walk away from their kids?? That's not very responsible. I'd tell them (in a nice way) it's an "adults only" party. If they have a problem w/it, then they don't have to come.

I think you have to stick to your guns and say no. Maybe phrase it like "wouldn't you like a nite out by yourselves?"

Re: If you hosted a formal party and someone wants to bring 2 young children...what do you do?
Are you having any other children there? If so, then yes, you should invite them. If not, then nicely explain, there will be nothing for them to do and nobody thier age. Its hard when you tell one family yes, and the others no. The ones you tell no may do some questioning. You have to stick to your guns.

Tell them there is no room to add seats / children.
Adults only... thank you.

Re: If you hosted a formal party and someone wants to bring 2 young children...what do you do?
If money is not an issue with the kids I wouldn't say anything at all since it's already a sore subject. Don't say a word and don't make any special accomodations either. The kids will be fine. I had people bring uninvited children (ok 1) to my wedding and I made no special accomodations whatsoever and it was fine.
If you want, change the seating but I wouldn't even do that. This is mean but that way when they get there and they see there's no seating for their kids (the hall will take care of it, don't worry about that part) they might just get the hint.
This way, you're not the bad guy b/c you didn't say actually say no.

Re: If you hosted a formal party and someone wants to bring 2 young children...what do you do?
I would ask them if they needed recommendations for a babysitter in the area )if out of town). If they're local, I would say "I'm sorry, this is just for adults only - the stripper would probably be uncomfortable" --- ok scratch the last part..juts the adults only.
I have 2 kids - trust me, as well behaved as they are - you don't want them if it's past their bedtime or nap time.

Re: If you hosted a formal party and someone wants to bring 2 young children...what do you do?
Formal party = No Kids. If the invite says no kids well it says that for a reason.
I am sorry if I sound like a 8itch but their are times and places for kids and if it is a formal party then that is not the time nor place for kids.
Like someone said she has 2 kids and you wouldnt want to be around them if it's pass their bedtime or nap time. I am sure others are like that too.

no one was invited with kids so I'm sure plenty of people won't even think to ask to bring them, but I'm sure they'll notice if other kids are there...
Exactly my point.
