My Disney World Review: Updated with link to pics!
I'll start by saying that we had a wonderful time and I want to go back right now!! The weather fluctuated between really, really sunny and hot, and thunderstorms, but nothing to keep us from enjoying the parks. I'd like to say it was a relaxing vacation, but I can't - it was exhausting! We did so much walking that I felt like a senior citizen by the end of the trip! It was totally worth it though. Here's my lengthy review:
Hotel: Pop Century - We loved it. It was clean, bright, and just so much fun! We loved the giant icons all over the place, like huge rubiks cubes and a giant Lady and the Tramp. I loved looking at all the nostalgic stuff they had in the lobby area. The pool areas were great, even though we only got to use the pool once.
Parks: Magic Kingdom: What can be bad about MK? CROWDS! B/c it's the smallest of the parks, there are just more people per square foot, and I felt like I was getting run over by strollers. Otherwise, it was great. I went on space mountain and splash mountain for the first time ever, and I really loved splash mountain. Stitch's Great Escape was just okay, nothing great. I loved Mickey's Philharmagic, but I wish there was a little more Mickey in it! Wishes, the fireworks show, was terrific, and Cinderellabration was a lot of fun.
EPCOT: My favorite park. Soarin was absolutely amazing, and I also really loved Test Track, although I wish it was a little longer. I enjoyed going on classic rides like Spaceship Earth and Journey into Imagination as well. IllumiNations, their fireworks/laser show, was okay, but nothing compared to Wishes and Fantsmic.
Disney/MGM Studios: I went on Tower of Terror for the first time, and it scared the cr@p out of me. I seriously felt like I was flying out of my seat, and my pocketbook kept levitating in the air above my lap with every drop! Rockin Roller Coaster starring Aerosmith was AMAZING! We rode it three times. The best time was when we were all the way in front, b/c we could see everything. I hated sitting in the back, b/c my I got bounced around too much and it hurt my head and neck. I also really enjoyed One Man's Dream. Fantasmic, MGM's nighttime show is terrific.
Animal Kingdom: It was our first time at AK, and we enjoyed it, although not as much as the other parks. The safari and kali river rapids were a lot of fun. We went on the rapids twice. The first time, we hardly got wet, and the second, we got drenched. We also really loved "It's Tough to Be a Bug", the 3D movie. The Spirit of the Lion King was also really good. We only spent part of a day at AK, and we finished everything by mid afternoon.
Restaurants:
We used the disney dining plan, which includes one snack (limited choices), one counter service meal, and one table service meal per night of your stay. It was nice, b/c we didn't have to worry about paying for our meals while we were there, which just takes away worrying about money during vacation. It's hard to say how much it paid off, b/c we probably ordered more expensive entrees than we would have if we weren't on the plan. Also, dessert is included with all plans. Normally, I don't order dessert, especially with lunch, but I did, since it was included.
Since you don't need a play by play of what we ate at each restaurant, I'll just rate them, with some comments:
Mitsukoshi Teppanyaki in Japan in Epcot: A+: wonderful - the best meal we had the whole trip. The only downside is that you share a table with a bunch of strangers, and not everyone is social. It was so much fun watching the chef make the food on the table in front of us, and it was delicious. I had filet mignon - yum!
Concourse Steakhouse in the Contemporary: Food was pretty good, nothing outstanding: B+
Wolfgang Pucks (Downtown - West Side): B: I wasn't terribly impressed. However, we ordered sushi, and we are pretty new sushi eaters. We're still learning what we like and don't like.
Coral Reef in EPCOT at the Living Seas: B: great atmosphere - you eat looking at the giant windows into their aquarium/coral reef. The food was nothing great though. It is overpriced for what they serve. We had a great time watching the fishies, though.
Kona Cafe in the Polynesian: A-: The food was very good, especially the chicken wing appetizer. I liked feeling a little like we were back in Hawaii.
The italian restaurant in Italy in EPCOT (I can't think of the name now...L'Originale Alfredo something or another) : A: The food and atmosphere were both very good.
Phew, I think that's it. I think this was longer than my wedding review! Any questions?
