Question? Nervous Updated

Hi Ladies,

Im 36 weeks pregnant and i fell and twisted my ankle and smashed my knee. I can hardly walk. i called my Ob-gyn to see if i can take anything for the pain, and she said that i should go to labor and delivery now to make sure i didnt detach my placenta when i fell. I told her the baby was moving and it was just my ankle and she said, it doesnt matter get to labor and delivery now. So now i am panicking, has this happend to anyone and what will they do in labor and delivery. Will i be there for hours like the ER. Im so nervous.

Re: Question? Nervous

Aw, I'm sorry you fell!

I'm guessing they'll do a quick sono and hook you up to the fetal monitor for a while to make sure the baby's not distressed. I know it's annoying and everything is fine with the baby, but it's better to be safe than sorry.

Good luck and feel better! Chat Icon

Re: Question? Nervous

Don't be nervous at all.
They are just being precautionary. I would definitely go!!

I went to L&D for something little and it honestly depends on how many people are there for how long you wait. I wouldn't worry about the wait or anything like that I would just want the piece of mind that everything is perfectly 100% OK with the baby!

Re: Question? Nervous

I'm so sorry you're going through this Chat Icon. I've never heard of it happening to anybody, but of course it would be in your best interest to go to the ER. Better to be safe than sorry. Most likely things will be fine (especially since you feel the baby moving.) You probably won't be in there too long. Maybe a couple of hours.

She's in a pool of water for this very reason.Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Also 36 weeks is term, so you're good to go now if they need to deliver her.

Hang in there!

Re: Question? Nervous

When I was about 35 wks, I was in a cab and he stopped VERY short and I flew to the seat in front of me. I did not hit my belly and my doc also told me that I should go to L&D just to monitor the baby. All was well with him. I was there for about an hr and a half. They are very well protected in there, so if you didn't hit your stomach...you are just fine.

Re: Question? Nervous

Aw!! I bet she is fine but of course they want to make sure so you'll get hooked up to the fetal monitor. You might be there a few hours - I would think on the f.m. for at least 45 minutes - but you'll come home with peace of mind. I feel so bad for you being in pain and just the trauma of a fall while being so far along. Hope you are on the mend quickly. Let us know how everythign goes.

Re: Question? Nervous Updated

Update

Hi Everyone,

I went to Labor & Del. and they monitored her for almost 2 hours, then they came in and told me they spoke to my doctor and that i had to stay over night. Apparently when i fell i irritated my uterus, was having contractions that i didnt even feel and her heartbeat was in the 170s. They just wanted to make sure that i wasnt going into preterm labor and that they could calm her down. Everything is fine her heart rate is normal now, they discharged me at 7am. The worst part of it all was the IV, they did it in my right hand first and didnt realize it wasnt in a vein, within 15 minutes my hand filled up with fluid and so much pain, they took it out and did it in the left hand. So now i have a sprained ankle, swollen hand, cut up knees and a huge belly. I feel like a HUGE mess. Nothing works on my body lol. Thanks for all the hugs & concerns!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Its good that they want to monitor to you- just to make sure. I'm sure everything will be OK!! Think about the story you have to tell your little one when she's older!
