Behr vs. Benjamin Moore

I have found colors I love w/ both brands. I know BM paint is more $ than Behr, but is it better quality or are you just paying more $ for the name?

Anyone use both and have a better experience with one than the other?

TIA!

ETA: Never mind when I posted this I saw the same topic come up under "related threads"
Sorry!!

I'm in the process of getting ready to paint the interior of my new house and we've been told Benjamin Moore all the way due to the quality of the paint.

Re: Behr vs. Benjamin Moore

I love Behr's... we used it exclusively in our first house and now with our second. Never had any problems with it and we always get compliments on the colors we've used...

Consumer Reports rated Behr the #1 paint in every single catergory, and it also got the "best value" flag.

seems like a no brainer to me.

BM got rated pretty poorly according to them.

We always use Behr.
It's less expensive and we've never had a problem with it.

I'm with you, Lori. I love Behr myself! Professional painters use BM so they can charge you more! (As if they don't charge ridiculous amounts as is!)

Nope! We used it in our bedroom, and will use it again when we paint the other rooms.

Re: Behr vs. Benjamin Moore

wow, all these Behr lovers. I HATE it. I tried to use it, and it just didnt go on well at all and the coverage stunk!

But you can't argue with consumer reports, so I guess it's not all that bad....just not for me

I always end up with Martha Stewart paintChat Icon

I found this article intersting.

Interior paint ratings

They don't choose one brand all around, they suggest that different paints are better in different situations, and even with one brand, the different paints they have can vary.

From personal experience, Sears' paints are a great affordable brand.

Re: Behr vs. Benjamin Moore

Haven't tried any other paint yet, but our whole house was done with BM. Very happy with the quality and the colors.

We did some outside touch-ups and used a paint that Chromo-paint in Hicksville mixed for us. They were dead on as far as matching colors..I was impressed! I don't know what the brand was off-hand.

same here! we just repainted our living room a light green and just needed two coats to cover blue (and that's without primer, which my dad doesn't believe in Chat Icon )

We tried both Behr and BM in our apt. and we had sooo many headaches with BM! We used Behr to cover up the streaky mess that was left on our living room walls by BM paint.

We've used both and we think BM is better. My reasons:

1) BM is thicker and coats better. We used 2 coats of bone white to cover a almost-medium blue wall. The paint guys at the BM store told us we wouldn't need primer and we didn't.

2) Odor - BM has a less obnoxious odor than Behr. We always well-ventilate the room we are painting but I still got headaches from Behr.

3) Knowledge - I think you pay more for BM because it's sold in paint shops & hardware stores and not large stores like Home Depot. I can always get help in the paint shop when I need it and they know their product well (see #1).

We tried BM after using Behr. BM is totally worth the price difference as is but I always find coupons for $3 off per gallon of BM in our junk mail. Chat Icon

I have to agree with all these points - especially #3.

I wish I found coupons!! I have 3 more rooms to paint! Chat Icon

We had this problem as well. We used up almost an entire gallon of Behr decorator white painting our small pantry off of the kitchen. ( was a pale yellow)

We used the same amount of paint by BM to paint my son's entire bedroom ( we painted a medium blue over a purple)

We love BM and will never go back to using behr. Our entire house minus the pantry has been done in BM paints.
