question fo remodelers - kitchen floor tile
Do you tile the entire floor and then put in the base cabinets
I have conflicting info from different contractors. Some say you tile the entire floor and the others say you tile around the cabinets (after installation)but under the appliances (since they slide in and could be "locked" in with tiles)

When I did my remodel - we tiled the whole floor. I would steer clear of the contractor that wants to do it afterwards. sounds like he's just trying to save a buck.

It can be done either way. If you have the opportunity to do the entire floor then do so. If your cabinets are already installed there's nothing wrong with tiling around them.

I just got mine done and they tiled the whole floor. My gf said they do that so if you ever want to change the layout of the kitchen, you won't have the empty spots of no tiles.

Tile the entire floor first then base cabinets. Doing it that way ensures your floor is level (from the mud being laid down) and therefore you wouldn't have to shim your cabinets.
