Roosevelt Hospital
How do you look up whether or not a hospital is good for L&D? My doctor delivers at Roosevelt Hospital on 58th and 10th. Does anyone know if this is a good hospital? i think they are affiliated with Beth Israel.

Re: Roosevelt Hospital
If you are going for a natural- non-drug birth- this is the way to go. They just created a great birthing center which is supposed to be amazing!!! But it is only for those going without pain medication.
My amazing doctor was affiliated with St. Lukes and I chose a different hospital because I had heard some bad things a few years ago about the hospital. I don't know if those are still accurate, but being the worrywart that I am and the research queen, I decided to deliver in NYU which was voted one of the top hospitals in NYC (although I hear bad things about their recovery). My primary concern was having a healthy delivery. I don't care as much about the recovery.
Since then, I have heard some positive things about St. Lukes, including the fact that they have a ton of private rooms for only about $300 (maybe even less).
ETA: As to research, I did some research and looked up US NEws and World Report's best hospitals for delivering babies. If I recall, NYU, Columbia Presbyterian and another one (Mt. Siniai maybe) were the ones I saw on that list in Manhattan. Oh- here is the website. US News and World Report

My Dr. delivers at St. Lukes too.
Strange question... Since you decided to deliver at another hospital, did you have to switch Dr.s?

Re: Roosevelt Hospital
Thanks Shelly. Yes, I would like to do natural childbirth and also was thinking about the private suite.

Yes. I like my new doctor- but i definitely prefer the bedside manner of my old doctor.

Then it sounds like St. Lukes would be a perfect choice for you. The birthing center is only a year or so old... check it out on their website. It sounds very cool. I have no intentions of going without medication, so it wasn't for me.

Re: Roosevelt Hospital
My mom had 4 kids, all natural, no drugs what-so-ever and she is always bragging to us about it. So, I figured, I'd show her I could do it too
My dr. said that it would be the Roosevelt unit, on 58th and 10th, I think there is another one, the St. Lukes unit, on Amsterdam?

That I don't know. I just hear that the birthing center is pretty cool. There is a pool and some other really cool stuff.
It's just not for me. Our family likes the drugs. Plus DH is already terrified of me yelling at him while I'm in labor. I don't think he could deal with me in the pain of a natural childbirth.
