Charlie Horse...
Anyone ever get these?
I never had and have read that you can get them in the 3rd trimester. Well I got one during the night on Friday. At one point during the night I rolled onto my back for a few minutes and brought my left knee up and my entire right leg was down. All of a suden this sharp pain hit the lower calf of my right leg. Pain just came out of nowhere!
I was like "holy crap". All I could think of to do was put my leg straight down. I held it in this tight straight position and after a couple of minutes the pain stopped but when I got up Saturday morning, I could not walk from the soreness. I walked it out and DH also rubbed it for me and then by late Saturday morning it was no longer sore.

Re: Charlie Horse...
I haven't had a pregnancy related one yet, however when I used to run cross country I would wake in the middle with them. What an awful pain!!! They say bananas or anything with potassium will help to lessen them..who knows?!

Re: Charlie Horse...
next time you get one, STAND UP.
i had 2 or 3 that weren't all that bad, then one night i had one that was awful! i was just rolling back and forth writhing in pain. i have been told standing up helps (like that is really easy), and the following time i got one i did and it went away 1-2-3...

That sounds kind of hard to do especially since you feel like you can't get up from the pain in your left. But I have heard that standing up helps...

Re: Charlie Horse...
I've gotten lots of cramps in my foot. Especially when I point them. But this was the first time I ever got a charlie horse. By the way where does the name come from?

Re: Charlie Horse...
The term may date back to American baseball slang of the 1880s, possibly from the pitcher Charley "Old Hoss" Radbourne who is said to have suffered from cramps. Another story mentions a horse named Charley that used to work at Comiskey Park, the Chicago White Sox' ballpark in Chicago.

Re: Charlie Horse...
Everytime I stretch I make a point to flex my foot because everytime I point I can feel one coming on. So far I've been leg cramp free this pregnancy.

Re: Charlie Horse...
My father used to get them all the time and he would jump up and stand on the bathroom floor (because of the cold tile floor). He said it was the only thing that helped.

Yes I have heard of that too, of putting your feet on a cold tiled floor...

Re: Charlie Horse...
I haven't had a pregnancy related one, but I've definitely experienced them and only at night in bed (why is that?). Bananas definitely help. Pointing my foot, made my foot and toes spasm - next time I'll try to get up (thanks for the tip) Usually I just try to massage it out and cry in pain. That does everyone a lot of good

Re: Charlie Horse...
If it happens again I think I'll just try standing up. But i'm hoping that it won't happen again.

i sleep with my toes pointed- which is also a big no no- try to sleep with your feet flexed.
