You may seriously want to look at this site- especially if you live on Pine Ave, Breeze Ave or near Vanderbilt Parkway. There is a public meeting scheduled for August 10th. Please fm me if you would like more information about the meeting.

Don't feel stupid the pamphlet I was sent was REALLY confusing. That's why I went onto the site.

They have several purposed ways and streets that they could use. For those people affect to have a natural gas line running infront of their house they might want to be informed. It's not for me to say good or bad but to be informed about what they are doing. I know that one line will be running near my house, that is why I was sent a pamphlet and I want to know how dangerous this line could be. What precautions they are taking and such.

all I can say is.. it's ABOUT TIME!

we are so behind the rest of the country when it comes to natural gas. evern old areas have brought in pipes for natural gas. it's so much more efficient and it's awesome to have CAC and gas maintained from 1 unit!

We live in an older home (albiet in NJ) and have natural gas. One feature I LOVE is we have a natural gas hookup for our grill on our patio.

From what I understand this gas line is being extended from an existing plant in Smithtown to service a new plant in Brookhaven. I may be mistaken, but I think this gas supply is for the purpose of generating power for LIPA, not for use by consumers??? It's not a bad thing in my opinion - the cost of electricity is out of control on LI and hopefully this will stabilize it. It sounds like it might be a headache for residents though and maybe traffic too.

I don't think the idea is bad per say but if this is running near your home and it was to rupture or there was a facture in the line I would think that you would want to know how at risk your house is. I personally do not know a lot about natural gas- it will be running close to my house so I will be attending the meeting on Aug 10th to hear how dangerous this could be or how at risk my home could be.

If this is not near your home I can definitely understand why it's a good idea. But I posted it because it seems the goverment agency that sent this to me does not have accurate records of who owns what. This was sent to both my neighbor and I but under the old homeowners names and we have both lived in our houses for over 2 years. My girlfriend that lives even closer to the proposed site didn't recieve it in the mail.

I can understand your concernsChat Icon Just a note that we have a gas main line on our street, as do many areas on LI where natural gas is available. When we converted to gas last year Keyspan just opened up the street and hooked us up!

I know the idea of having a whole new pipeline installed is upsetting, but I am sure they are going to look at all the options and do the very best job. As a matter of fact, this new line will probably be a lot more secure than the old one that's oustide my house!

It sound like you are well-informed and educating yourself about the project, which is always a benefit.

I went to the meeting today this is not a pipeline the size of something that you have on your block this is enough to power 300,000 homes- This could practically wipe out all the homes in a town!

For anyone who thought this was not so bad. Here is a picture of the crater left by the explosion of a comprable pipe in New Mexico. It measures 86 feet long 46 feet wide and 20 feet deep.
