Any secondary English teachers here?
Hi, I was just wondering if there are any 7-12 English teachers here. I just finished my degree in May and was wondering if anybody had any idea about the job market for us. I know it is rough for all teachers, but I fee like there are just NO jobs at all posted for English.
Any ideas, help, advice would be great!!

I'm a middle school English teacher, and there are jobs out there....but not many. Your best bet is probably to get into a district by subbing, or as a leave replacement first. Then, when there is a retirement....they'll already know you.
Good luck!

Re: Any secondary English teachers here?
As I was leaving my building on Friday I ran into someone I went to grad school with. She is also English. She said she went an entire year without a job (we graduated May 2005) and now her only possibility for the upcoming year is a leave-replacement. It is definitely tough!!
Just keep looking, something will give!
ETA: In all fairness, the girl I went to school with had a law degree, which means district have to pay her the JD salary, which is very high! I think more of her issue is that she is a very expensive new hire!
